Overall

Beware!! It is my opinion that this dealership takes MAJOR advantage of people who do not know anything about fixing cars. I have only dealt with them on two occasions; and I have listed the details below.

I am a DIY mechanic that takes care of my own cars; however, I have had a few instances where I had to bring my Toyotas to Mike Erdman, either to diagnose problems I could not figure out on my own or Toyota recalls. Note, I do not look like the kind of person who fixes my own cars, so they seem to automatically take me for a fool.

The first time I brought my Toyota Corolla in because there was a terrible sound emanating from the engine compartment; and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. The problem turned out to be a faulty steering pump; however, I was shocked when they gave me an estimate for over $3,000, which included an entire brake system they said I "needed." By the way they spoke, you would have thought this car was a total peice of junk; but, in fact, it looked and drove like new. I declined the repairs, and went home to check out all the things they said needed to be fixed. Upon inspection, my brakes and pads were in perfect condition. The pads were very thick, like new; no noise; good stopping power.

On the second occasion, I brought my Sienna van in because I got a recall notice in the mail. Again, the van looks and drives like new, with no issues. However, once again they shocked me with an estimate for repairs of $3,000 for a new steering rack. They said I needed a new steering rack because the old one was leaking fluid. However, upon my later inspection, the steering system was, in fact, not leaking fluid at all; but there was a suspicious screwdriver-sized hole in the steering boot. I changed the boot myself, which cast $14 and paid $75 for suspension alignment. My steering rack is still perfectly fine one year later.

I have also found the service people to be both intimidating and condescending. They make it very hard to say "No" to repairs, without making a scene in front of other customers. In other words, I find that they are very pushy. Remember, I was just there to take care of a recall issue that was supposed to be free. I was completely unprepared to be slapped in the face with a $3,000 repair estimate.

Screwing the Elederly.....

My mother lives in Cocoa Beach. She has owned a toyota since 2002. She went to this toyota dealer looking for an oil change. She got much more than she bargained for. They told her.....she needed to replace her fluid pump it was leaking everywhere...it will cost you $800.00!!! Outrageous......because a second opinion at another dealership...nothing wrong!!

Guess what...she will NOT purchase or have any repairs done EVER at Mike Erdman Toyota on Merritt Island!! They take

ADVANTAGE of sweet little senior women!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
