I loved coming in and being able to play with and pet all the animals. The place appears very well kept, the animals look well taken care of and the women working at the time were very helpful and informative. I was hesitant to go there as I did not hear good things about the customer service, but I suppose they got their act together. Very nice place and would definitely recommend adopting from there.

We just went to The House of News with the intent of adopting two cats and making a donation. However, my husband and I brought our dog (who has been raised with our cats, is exceptionally well behaved, and a fully trained purebred husky). My husband waited outside with our dog while I went in to look at the cats and ask for an application; however, the woman behind the desk apparently didn't have the sense to realize that I owned the dog that was sitting outside, not making the least bit of trouble or even acknowledging all of the cats in the windows. This woman proceeds to make condescending, vicious, and absolutely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL remarks about my husband and our dog being outside, loudly enough for everyone inside to hear her. I calmly closed the cage I had been looking in, walked out, and will now make sure everyone knows how hateful and unprofessional this place is. How pathetic. This woman needs to seek some professional help for her malicious and attention-seeking behavior. I should know - I'm a psychiatric nurse.

Do yourself a favor and adopt from someone who actually cares about animals. This woman clearly doesn't; it appears from other reviews that she'd rather let these poor cats rot in cages than go to good homes. So sorry to Smokey and Bentley; I couldn't bear to be in the presence of that evil woman any longer than 2 minutes, even if it does mean that you two precious babies have to stay in her clutches.

Owner is the most rude cat lover I've ever met

The woman that owns this place thinks she knows it all about cats and is extremely rude. She requires you to fill out this dumb application before you can even look at any cats your interested in and then continues to ask you a million different nonsense questions that have nothing to do with adopting a cat. I found a cat that I really clicked with and I immediately fell in love, the woman then continues to blatantly tell me that I can't have her. Seriously?! The cats are well taken care of and I would have loved to adopt there but I can't deal with that woman treating her customers like trash. I have NO idea how she stays open with that mouth on her.

They have cats roaming around the shop and they seem to be well taken care of. But the older lady who is behind the counter most days is a COLOSSAL C-unt. From the moment I entered the store I was being eyeballed like a Korean restaurant owner. She kept asking me ridiculous questions (about me) with an extreme tone of condescension and skepticism. I think at one point she actually asked why I wanted a cat....gee I don't know, maybe because.....I like cats? Anyway it took several minutes of convincing to get her to even hand me an application. Once I gave it to her she started asking more ridiculous questions about my work history, change of address, etc. again with MAJOR skepticism. I think she thinks that a cat adoption background check should be as thorough as a child adoption. In any case she was extremely rude, and of course, I never got a call about the application. I would never go to this place again simply because of her and I tell everyone I see to avoid it like the plague and find an alternative adoption source. ZERO STARS.

I tried adopting a cat from them. The lady I spoke with told me I was an unfit owner cruel to animal and that I wasn't the type of person they adopt cats to. All because I have a dog outside. She also attacked me personally on my job and where I live. I went there to adopt a cat after my cat I'd had for 21 years passed, she all but accused me of killing her. Obviously, if someone has a cat for 21 years they take very good care of it! Every review I read said the lady was mean to people also. She's nothing but a cat hoarder.

The woman running this place is the most rude, condecsending individual I have dealt with in a very long time. I left this place almost in tears as she laughed at me, spoke to me like i was stupid, and proceeded to insult me. I never imagined having such a terrible experience, as I love animals and only wanted to give one a good home. I also had put aside an extra $300 I was just going to donate, because I know the place is run by donations. I don't know how she stays afloat by being so terrible to the customers. I have several friends, including a local vet who confirmed being treated the same way. Sad for the cats, as she may not kill them they are destined to remain there because she is a terrible nasty person to anyone wantiong to adopt. I hate that I even have to give one star. Let it be known, the one star is only filled in because it was required.

Offended and repulsed.

If I could give House of Mews 0 stars, I would. The woman who owns the store has been nothing but rude and offensive to myself and my family. I recently looked to adopt a cat from House of Mews. I filled out the forms; one section asked what type of cat I was looking for, indoor/outdoor, indoor, or outdoor. I live in the country, and my current pet is indoor/outdoor and it is perfectly safe where we live, so, thinking nothing of it, I checked "Indoor/Outdoor." When I returned the following week to see the status of the adoption papers, the woman said I had been rejected. Upon inquiring why, she responded that she only let her cats be indoor. I assured her that that was no problem, I was much too smitten with the cat to let something like that get in the way, and an indoor cat is perfectly fine with me (Truly, I had no preference whatsoever, I simply thought that since my current cat was that way, it would be natural for me to select that option on the form). However, she responded rather snidely with a, "No, you'll just take the cat and let it be whatever you want it to be. Get out." I am living with my father at the moment, who was rather upset with how she had treated me, and he called her to clarify any misunderstanding. Immediately upon finding out that he was living with me, she began yelling at him that no way would we ever adopt from her, and hung up on him. Even before this incident, while I was in the store playing with the cats, she showed no respect or consideration for me. I feel terrible for the poor cats in there who are currently homeless and, most likely, will remain so into the future, thanks to her.
