I love Natural Affair Beauty Lounge. This is a place where I can totally be relaxed, and received the best care that is needed for my hair. Thank you Mrs. Takeshia for an excellent job of taking care of my hair. You are such an excellent owner of Natural Affair, just to look at some of the clients' facial expression when they look in the mirror makes me happy to know, That I'm at the right place. It's good to see your clients looking beautiful when they walk out the door. Thank you for all the years of taking care of my hair. I love Natural Affair Beauty Lounge. You have excellent stylist's that works in the shop along with you. And you are also an excellent owner,as well as a wonderful instructor that does a lot for the community, for as helping young ladies, and given women an opportunity to have a start in their career on doing hair. Thanks Ms.T. Reed.

The shampoo girl was kinda lazy, she did not was my hair worth craps. Next the young lady that did my hair did not do what I asked her to do. The hair style turn out good but I want what I want for $70 in this economy. I wish the stylist had have accessed my hair to see if it needed an dandruff treatment or a trim at least. Also, she was really rough with my natural hair. As a stylist specializing natural hair rule 101 is that natural hair is fragile and must be handed with care.

Overall

I recently visited A Natural Beauty Lounge and was not impressed. I had a 9:00 appointment with the owner, however, the shop was not opened until 9:10 and I received no apology for the late start. I found the situation particularly irksome because of their policy (on their website) of charging an additional $20 to your next appointment if you fail to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. I would think the client's time would be treated with the same amount of respect.

The other negative to this experience, is that my stylist, the owner, was constantly chatting during my service, She was either on the phone or chatting with her colleagues. The only time I received her undivided attention was when she was trimming my hair.

I have to agree with other comments below, regarding the poor shampooing service. My hair and scalp did not feel clean at the end of the session.

Lastly, I was not happy with my trim. My last trim was 8 months ago, so I knew that my hair needed a bit of shaping and that I would need to trim a little bit more than usual. I was expecting 2 inches (3 inches max) to be taken off but in the end I lost at least 5 inches if not more in some sections.

Now I know it is often hit or miss when it comes to trims. You never really know if your stylist is going to be scissor happy until you're in the chair and if this was my only complaint I would have rated the salon a bit higher and even considered returning to have them style my hair. However, there is no way, given the lack of professionalism and the poor shampooing service (which is a basic hair styling skill), that I can in good conscience rate them more than 1 star or consider returning.

NIGHTMARE!!!!! I wanted to add simple highlights to my natural so I searched for a salon in the city that catered to natural hair. I called them for a consultation and went in that same day to meet with a stylist. I explained to her what I was hoping to have done, picked out my color and made an appointment.

The first thing that should have tipped me off was the "lazy" attitude of the stylist. Any who... I show up for my appointment and got my 2nd tip that the visit wasn't going to go well. The stylist Stephanie had to refer back to the owner for instruction on how to do the highlights that we had discussed 1 day earlier. The owner suggested a technique that was different from what we had discussed during the consult but since THEY'RE SUPPOSE TO BE THE PROFESSIONALS.... Excited about getting a new color and trusting of what appears to be a professional establishment, I carry on. The entire time that Stephanie was on my head, SHE WAS ON THE PHONE. I noticed that some of the stylist in the salon were turning out fairly nice twist outs and locks so I continued to hope that I would not be the disaster of the day.

Now I've had color in a professional salon before. Usually the stylist will come back and check to see how the color is processing. NO!!! Stephanie stuck me under the dryer, went and took a seat and YOU GUESSED IT...GOT BACK ON THE PHONE!! Keep in mind that the owner Keisha's station was directly across from Stephanie and she didn't seem to have a problem with any of this.

I wish I could up load the pictures of the outcome. It was the worst color job I've ever seen in life!!!!! Everyone in the salon, including Keisha were looking at me like OH MY GOODNESS!!! The male receptionist even gave me a look of pity. Before I even made it to the mirror to see this mess, their faces told the whole story. I have stripes in the back of my head and a HUGE bright spot right in the front. Not to mention, the color is NOTHING like the one that I picked out. I picked a golden honey color (for high lights) but I got a HUGE orange circle in the front with blond stripes in the back. It's what you would expect to see on an episode of pranked.

What's most disappointing is that the owner Keisha was comfortable to let that type of work leave her establishment. I even called back to speak to her and after putting me on hold several times, she came back to the call and made a poor attempt to justify Stephanie's work. She said that Stephanie could tone down the color but it would be the next week before she could get to me. Never mind the fact that I have a very public and visible job in the city. Never mind that fact that IF I did ever step foot back in that place, it WOULD NOT BE TO SEE STEPHANIE. Now I will have to pay some real professionals to repair what was done.

Best believe I'm telling everyone I encounter about this monstrosity of a color job and experience!!! Save yourself some time, $$$ and embarrassment... DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

ANABL is both good & Bad

The good: If you are going for the natural loose hair style, this is the place for you. They do amazing styling and they are very knowledgeable about natural hair.

The bad: The stylist are somewhat slow when working on a clients head. They rush theough the shampooing and conditioning sp much so that you dont get the feeling that you got a good shampoo. If you have traditional locs, this isnt the place for you. I got my locs retwisted while they were still dry and I dont feel the stylist are very knowledgeable about locs. This salon is more focused on loose hair and protective styling.

Overall

This place was absoluately beautiful. The website was great. I can see that the owner is trying to portray a professional welcoming prescence. However ,I do believe that more thought needs to be put into respecting the customer's time. The conversions that were allowed to take place was offensive. The people did not welcome me. I don't know if I am expecting too much because many Memphis black owned businesses have terrible customer service. I was shocked at what I found because I was expecting an atmosphere that was more unscale and professional. I was not impressed with the staff because while I was there they were making fun of one of their fellow employee. Also, they were acting as if the place was a low budget barber shop for example, loud singing and course joking took place while I was there. Like I said, some people may be used to this but I hope that things can change because hair stylist play a major role in how black women feel about themselves. I hope this hair salon will be reminded of the influence they have. Thanks for letting me share with you what I think. I hope your business prospers and will be better as a result of you listening to your customers.

I went to A Natural Affair on last Saturday for my big chop. My appointment was at 12, but I got a call just before 10 asking if I could come on in. I did inform them that I was just getting ready, and it was going to take me a while because I was coming from Southaven. However, I arrived about 15 to 20 mins after 11. It was still 12:00 before I was seen. The lady that washed my hair didn't take the time to do a good wash. It felt as if she just put the shampoo in my hair and washed it back out, put conditioner in it and put me under the dryer. I only made my appt. for the big chop because I didn't know what I wanted done, but I know I didn't want an afro. I decided to get coils, and Stephanie told me she had to see if she had time because she had another client. She did make the time after stopping on my hair to do the other persons hair. It was 4:00 before I left the salon. I love all the ladies in the salon, the atmosphere is great, I just feel like I shouldn't have been there that long, and especially since I came early, and to top it off I am still cutting relaxed hair off. That's what I went to the shop for! I will be returning because no business is great all the time, I just thought I would make them aware of the situation to keep it from happening in the future.

A Natural Hair Affair

I visited tge natural hair affair on today. After reading all the reviews, I decided to visit the ahop. I went in for a trim and was advised by the receptionist it would cost 15.00. Well after getting my hair TRIMMED not cut from Stepahnie, I paid and my total was 35.00! Unethical, very disappointed! I will never go becauze of thia bad experience. I read another review from a cuatomer which they had the same problem. Shame on you for not be totally honest with the customer.

Great service! Relaxing atmosphere! Kim is the business, creative and knowledgeable. She styled my Senegalese twisted and the style was lovely. I had to go back and allow her to style my loose natural hair. I get the combination creation and have always been satisfied. I’ve witnessed the other stylists provide excellent and prompt service to clients with locs, transitioning styles, and big chops. All the stylists are friendly and down-to-earth. The products that they use are also available for sale. If you are natural, transitioning, or indecisive about going natural, I highly recommend you stopping by A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge and getting a consultation.

Although the enviroment was comfortable I'm not a fan of waiting over 30 minutes for an appointment. When making the appointment they ask that you be prompt for your appointment so I expected to be seated within 10 minutes or less of showing up. This will not hender me from going there in the future but I will take a little more patience :-)

This is a great atmosphere with very knowledgeable and friendly natural hair care stylists. I take comfort in knowing that my hair is not being shared with persons with relaxer/chemical on their hair before my natural tresses are placed in the shampoo bowl. Takeisha and her staff are visionaries that can take your hair, whether short or long, and not only produce creative styles, but improve the health of your hair.

I had a wonderful experience! I received a consultation before my appointment, that allowed me to be educated about the current state my hair was in and they suggested options that would best fit my hair in its current state. My stylist was great and she styled my hair in a timely manner. I have been searching for a salon that caters to natural hair and I found this place. I am very pleased and I recommend this salon if you have decided to start your natural hair journey. The owner was fun and she made sure everyone was taken care of and interacted. She is avalible to her staff and gives positive energy to the clients. I will be scheduling again soon for services!!!!!!!

I went into the salon to with the expectation that it was going to be super luxurious based off the website and fb. When I got there I was shocked to find a one room salon with no spa like feel at all. My stylist was Kim. She gave me a good shampoo, although the chair was uncomfortable and there was shampoo in my ear the entire time. She did a flat twist and even while the hair was twisted it was cute. She did not take it down. When I went to pay, I was over charged by 15 dollars based on the price on the website. I will admit that my hair is cute, but not 55 dollars for a flat twist out cute. I would recommend the salon to anyone that is searching for a natural hair stylist, just be aware of mis information.

Hi TNicole, thank you for your review of your salon experience here @ ANABL. I am the owner of ANA and I wanted to personally respond. I would like to acknowledge your concerns and offer you an opportunity to not only come back to my salon for services, I would like to offer you a complimentary service of your choice with me Takeisha Berry Brooks not to exceed 85.00. I would also love to hear more from you, that way you can help me, the owner, to create an atmosphere that would be more appealing for more to come an enjoy. I don't know excactly what happened however, with Twist Outs it is the discretion of the client to want a full twist out, because if the twists aren't set, the twist out will only last a day or two and it will not be worth the service. We typically twist the hair in a style pleasing enough to wear in public and the twist out is a second option for a style that way you can benefit in both ways. As far as being overcharged by 15.00 I don't know if a Flat Twist Updo was preformed instead of a Twist Out, therefore it could have been confused by whomever checked you out during the time. Please if you are willing to contact me, I will be glad to accommodate you and and correct whatever experience you had. My vision for the salon is to be the leading Natural Haircare Salon in the Greater Memphis Area. It is clients like you, who will help me achieve and uphold the standards of this business to continue to gain success! Email or call me @anaturalaffair@gmail.com or 9018591113. Thank you so much!
