Terrible! Dealt with a misdiagnosis/bad prescription choice that may end up costing us our pet's life! Avoid this place if at all possible:

I chose to bring my mother's dog to Markham Animal Clinic based on previous EXCEPTIONAL experiences I've had with my own rescued pit bull/akita mix.(A previous review was a result of a miscommunication between Dr. Heidi and myself and should in no way reflect badly upon the clinic). I found over a dozen fingertip-sized lumps in Taffy's neck one Thursday night and first thing Friday, I was able to get in to see Dr. Heidi. She told me it was likely lymphoma, drew some blood and contacted me the very next day with preliminary lab results. By Tuesday, when the labs were all in, Taffy's tumors had grown exponentially (the size of apricots). They wanted to schedule a biopsy, but the tumors were just growing too fast...they were the size of tennis balls the following morning, she was having breathing difficulty and we immediately euthanized her rather than have her suffer. I notified Dr. Heidi that morning about the sudden changes in the tumors and that we had euthanized Taffy rather than have her suffer. Later that day, I got a wonderful phone call from Dr. Heidi, expressing her sympathy and explaining that Taffy probably had a really aggressive T-cell lymphoma and that treating her sooner wouldn't have changed the outcome. Later that week, I got a sympathy card and another follow-up phone call to find out how we were all doing. And this is from the vet that DIDN'T take care of her on a regular basis!!! Though I've moved farther away from this outstanding clinic, I will always make the drive. Vets may be a dime a dozen in the Chicago area, but they treat you and your pet like one in a million!

My dog was horribly abused by his previous owner and is documented as a fear biter...not a bad thing, even managable for most breeds, however this is a pitbull. I initially brought him to Markham animal clinic thinking they would be patient and understanding with him. The dog generally is a shivering wreck from the time we walk in the door. \r I recently found a lump in his abdomen and, after discussing the expense of a needle aspirate with Dr. Heidi(and the fact that I didn't have a lot of money, nor did I want my dog to experience unnecessary pain or fear), we decided to have him sedated to get a dental and they were to do the aspirate while he was unconscious. THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I WOULD HAVE SPENT $100 I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE FOR A DENTAL---To keep my dog from learning more pain and fear from the vet.\r After his procedure, Heidi told me she went ahead and had him muzzled(which freaks him out!) and had several techs hold him down to do the aspirate BEFORE the dental. Then she hands me an extra bill for a stool test I NEVER AUTHORIZED. Nice.\r So, they are so desperate to get my money that they LIED TO ME. Dr. Heidi Hoogwedge promised that he would be sedated PRIOR to the aspirate (I know I would want to be sedated if someone was going to stab a needle in my stomach) and he was not. She told me that everything was only going to cost me $140 and IT DID NOT! \r When you take your car to the shop, they give you an estimate. Anything above that, they are supposed to call and authorize. So why the hell is leaving your dog at the vet any different?!? As a paramedic, I can truly say that Dr. Heidi Hoogwedge and her Markham Animal Clinic have crossed a line into UNETHICAL TREATMENT FOR PROFIT. \r I used to be a big fan, and now I will never EVER bring my dog back.

This is my first-time message. I feel so strongly about this place that I must make it known. Simply put, Markham Animal Clinic is the absolute BEST. I have always had many animals. I can't describe the relief in knowing I've finally found a vet that I can trust completely. They have treated each and every one of my animals with the most accurate and utterly compassionate care I could ever hope for. I was initially stunned with the concern I received - from not only the doctors but the support staff as well. I will never - ever - trust my animals to anybody else. On top of all that, their prices are quite reasonable. Even if you do not live in the area, they are worth the drive. They are located within blocks of I57.

The staff is extremely caring and helpful. We always bring our dogs to Dr. Jack.
