Zen Bakery

To begin my review, allow me to state that this is in regards to HEALTH and food safety concerns only -- this is not a review based upon the taste of this bakery's products. On 12/19/16, I purchased the Blueberry Fiber Cakes from my local Whole Foods -- these cakes were clearly dated with a USE BY Date of 12/27/16. Upon taking them home and consuming a muffin, I went about my business as usual, and all seemed fine until less than 16 hours later when I became extremely ill with stomach upset and vomiting and, to my horror, I noted that the Fiber Cakes had turned completely moldy -- a blue, mottled mold covering almost the entirety of the Blueberry Fiber Cakes. Literally overnight, these Fiber Cakes molded to the monstrosity which you will see in the photos I am providing -- and 7 full days PRIOR to the "expiration date" on the package. I spoke with Whole Foods and was advised to contact the vendor directly (ZEN BAKERY), as the dates are placed on the package according to when the items arrive in-store. Well, I did just that and was met with a very incompetent situation, on top of my illness as a result of eating these contaminated muffins.

After contacting the owner (at least I assume he is the owner, as his email reply was very short with little information) Jack Drake, I was generated a short email with a claim number to Nationwide insurance which he filed on my behalf (which I did not request). I visited a doctor on 12/22 after days of vomiting and stomach cramps/upset (and other stomach issues which I will spare here), who diagnosed me with food poisoning, prescribed a medication to abate the vomiting, and referred me to the ER if it continued. Well, even with the photographic proof of these contaminated Fiber Cakes, the doctor visit notes from my chart directly, and other pertinent information, my "claim" was denied and Jack Drake is nowhere to be found now, and is not returning emails.
