General Info

From The Tower, built in 1927, where Gable and Lombard lived, to The Cabanas, vintage 1950s, where Marilyn Monroe lived, guests have two distinct accommodations options. The Tower has undergone a 25 million dollar renovation designed by Yabu Pushelberg. The Tower rooms have larger work desks and are suited for guests traveling on business or with families. The Cabanas are just footsteps from the renowned David Hockney pool and the Tropicana Pool Cafe, which is open until 2am. The Cabanas are suited for guests looking for an entertaining and lively Hollywood experience.

I stayed here when I moved to LA. This is truly a Hollywood landmark and a great place to see celebs.. the rooms are beautiful, the hospitality is good. My problem was that when I went there, there was a private function and security was over the top and a little in your face. I don't mind not being a VIP, but I am still paying a lot of cash for a room and drinks.. The Pool is beautiful, parking works and your are right in the middle of everything... if the cost is clear, this is a fun place to stop by and have a drink... but it only gets three stars because they should have kept a leash on the help.

  • One of the worst hotels money can buy
    Updated: a month agoPosted: 2/1/2011

No doubt this place has an incredible night scene - as a club, it gets closer to 4 stars. As a hotel, this place is a DUMP. Stayed there several times now - rooms are small, dark and dirty. Supposedly-cool 1970's dark decor just masks the poor room quality. Overdue for a remodel.\r \r As someone who spends over 100 nights / year in hotels, save your money folks and stay elsewhere.

Great choice. Awesome location, right in front of Kodak Theater

  • devil woman wprking the door
    Updated: a month agoPosted: 8/7/2009

I am Senior Editor of a music and nightclub magazine and was sent out on assignment to this place to write a review for the august issue-I came alone, dressed in a cute mini dress with my CL heels and was literally ignored by the devil woman, Sarah, working the door. Each attempt to get her attention was rudely brushed off, yet she let hoards of guys in with no problem. It was only when a friend of mine who happened to be there came out to get me that she actually said to me ""oh why didnt you just say you were with him?"" I have never, in my 6 years of reviewing clubs have ever had such door drama! Once inside, it was obvious they werent at capacity and she was just on her door power trip. The place itself is laid-back and really fun, but the door service is so poor I dont see myself ever going back or advising others to do so. Oh and she also works the door at Teddy's-and did the exact same thing there. I know they have a job to do but her attitude is so high and mighty that it totally turned me off to the whole experience-I guess the lesson here is: better be careful who you are rude to, because you never know who they are or who they are working for!

  • Great for NewYears

This is one of the premier spot to be at for NewYears. Gotta get a room by the pool though...Loads of fun without driking and driving.

  • Dark deep orange embiance

If you like orange lighting against black panels, you might like this hotel decor more then I do. Efficient bath and accessories. Still have grumpy air conditioning system that can wake a cow up. Ten thousand moon at night with spot light shining directly at windows. Refrigerator is not turned on even though mini bar items were there. Front desk staff though not knowledgable are willing to help. 24 hours phone in tech support is great. Concierge and bell service above average. Location very convenient.

  • Tropicana Night Life
    Updated: a month agoPosted: 8/7/2008

OK So It was a very nice crowd when I went. It was a Wednesday night and I think it was a Jay -Z after party or something like that, \r \r The POP's were EVERY WHERE!!! L.L. was there with her gal pal who was DJing that night, and many more Celeb's I actually went by myself and met some friends there but I had NO Problem getting in. \r \r You must know that the Tropicana is apart of the Roosevelt hotel so you might see someone who is very casually dressed and looking like what?s going on. This might be a guest. But there are a lot of good looking girls and guys, and getting in is No problem, no need to buy a table, NO ridiculous cover, there is a more private VIP section upstairs. I went on a less crowded night and I must say the staff is GREAT!!! They are really nice. This is one of the very very very very VERY (Maybe the only one) few places that you can call and someone will pick up the phone and give you info.\r \r I must say that there is also a very nice pool area and a great place to go TAN and meet new people and make new friend. ALOT of my frinds go to the pool in the day.\r

  • Immature, unhelpful staff
    Updated: a month agoPosted: 7/24/2008

I had a relatively good experience with the valet staff and housekeeping, but the front desk, concierge and service staff seemend so inexperienced. It seemed as if they couldn't care less about their jobs -- like they were too good to be of service, as if they are unaware they are in the hospitality industry. Fell far short of expectations.\r \r Great location for tourist activity and a beautifully decorated old hotel.
