Dental Care
Schedule your pet’s dental exam today! We can also help show you how to brush your pet’s teeth and recommend foods and treats that will help combat plaque and tartar buildup.
Vaccination
To keep all our patients as healthy as possible, we require pets that are boarding with us to have current rabies and distemper vaccinations, along with other species-specific vaccinations. We also require that most vaccinations be given at least two weeks before boarding. Please call us for more information.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Crystal Leath graduated with a bachelors of science in animal science from North Carolina State University in 2008. She graduated fro Auburn University College of Veterinary medicine in 2013. She practiced her first year at an emergency veterinary hospital and has since been in general practice. Dr. Leath’s interest include ophthalmology, surgery, and internal medicine. She lives in Lexington with her husband Michael, son Matthew and Benjamin the family pet beagle.
Nutritional Counseling
Our kitten wellness program is designed to help get your kitten started on the right path to a long and healthy life. The first few months area critical period in your kitten’s development, and we can give you the support and tools necessary to help him or her grow into a well-mannered, healthy cat, including information and advice on nutrition, litter box training, and behavior. Schedule your kitten for his or her first exam as soon as possible. Until your kitten has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. We will make sure your new pet is protected against rabies and panleukopenia (distemper). Depending on your cat’s risk, we may also advise vaccinating him or her against other diseases, such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). In addition, your kitten will need to be tested and treated for parasites, which are common in young cats. Most kittens have roundworms, which are intestinal worms that can cause coughing, weight loss, and a potbellied appearance in cats (although they may not cause any symptoms). It is important for kittens to be treated for roundworms, not only to help rid them of the infection but also to prevent you and the rest of your family from becoming infected. Roundworms are a zoonotic parasite, which means they can be transmitted from pets to people. By ensuring that your kitten is properly treated, you can keep your entire family safe.
Comprehensive Examination
Dental disease can also affect other organs in the body: Bacteria in the mouth can get into the bloodstream and cause serious infections in the kidneys, liver, lungs, and heart. If these problems aren’t caught and treated quickly enough, they can result in death. A physical exam combined with appropriate laboratory work can determine if infection in the mouth has spread.

Joint pain, inflammation, and generally having a hard time getting from point “A” to point “B” can come with your pet’s old age as well. As they age, their joints start to get worn out, and arthritis can commonly start to set in. Starting them on a Glucosamine supplement early in their life can help aid their joints and reduce discomfort. Some supplements can have a combination of glucosamine and fish oils that can also help contribute to having a healthy skin and coat, as well as helping their joints. Radiographs can be taken of the entire body, focusing on their elbows, hips, knees and more, looking for any bone changes or inflammation. Dental Surgery
Even if your dog or cat doesn’t have these symptoms, we recommend that you have a veterinarian evaluate your pet’s dental health at least once a year. Bacteria and food debris accumulate around the teeth and, if left unchecked, will lead to deterioration of the soft tissue and bone surrounding the teeth. This decay can result in irreversible periodontal disease, tooth loss, and possibly expensive oral surgery.
Veterinary Surgery
Probably the most common soft tissue surgery performed on pets is the removal of masses, or lumps. Most of these masses, once removed and tested, are found to be benign (nonharmful); however, occasionally they are more serious. Early removal and accurate diagnosis of a lump is necessary to improve the outcome in your pet if the mass is cancerous.
Spaying and Neutering
Neutering your pet has many benefits. The procedure, which prevents male animals from reproducing, can help your dog or cat live a longer, healthier life. Neutering will not change your pet’s personality.

Laboratory Services
Bloodwork is recommended for all of our pets, young and old! However, in our older pets, it’s a good idea to check it a little more often. Running routine bloodwork every 6-12 months can help us maintain an image of your pet’s health in the form of their organ functions, blood count, and urinalysis status. This looks for any concerns for the kidneys, liver, heart, thyroid, and many, many more functions of your pet’s body. Running bloodwork helps us catch any issues or diseases as early as possible in hopes of treatment with a better prognosis. We also run bloodwork for monitoring purposes in pets that are on long-term medications to make sure that their body is tolerating them well. Blood work can be done in-house, or sent to an outside lab for analysis.

Grooming
We provide amenities such as clean bedding and food and water bowls, but feel free to bring your own if you’d prefer. Toys and other personal items that are washable are welcome. We will administer any needed medication and follow your specified feeding regimen. (Alternately, we can provide a high-quality diet and treats for no extra charge, although eating their own food tends to agree better with most boarded pets.) We can also provide grooming services before you pick up your pet.
Senior Pet Care
Veterinary technicians regularly check on the pets, and our kennel staff monitor the boarding area. You have the added benefit of knowing that one of our clinicians will promptly begin treatment if your pet gets sick during his or her stay. In addition, we can arrange for one of our veterinary team members to provide overnight monitoring for senior pets or those with certain health issues.
