Urinary Incontinence
Over the last few years women are talking more and more about vaginal rejuvenation. If you’re wondering what exactly vaginal rejuvenation means, don’t worry, you’re not the only one. The term is used to describe the treatments that address the physiological changes to the vaginal tissues that are common after childbirth or menopause. Many times these changes are the cause for urinary incontinence and vaginal dryness. One of these changes is vaginal laxity. The laxity of vaginal tissue can lead to urinary leakage and diminished sexual sensation. Studies have shown 1 in 3 women suffer from urinary leakage and 40% of women suffer from sexual dysfunction. Often times urinary leakage will happen when women will laugh, cough, sneeze or exercise. Sexual dysfunction is often described as sexual dissatisfaction! Gynecology
Dr. Tristan Fowler is the newest addition to our team. Joining our practice in August 2020, he is excited to provide exceptional care to the patients in our community. Dr. Fowler graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine. Following medical school he continued his education and training at the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at Michigan State University-Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. While there, he served as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michigan State University. Dr. Fowler is FLS certified and skilled in performing minimally invasive hysterectomies among other procedures, including laparoscopic, robotic and traditional “straight stick” hysterectomies.

Dr. Traci Nauser joined Center for Women’s Health in 1998. She graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine after completing their 6 year program straight out of high school. Following medical school she continued her education and training at the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine (Truman Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital) where she served as the Chief Resident. Subsequently, she received the Outstanding Resident Award and Resident Teaching Award.

Pelvic Pain
Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial tissue (tissue that lines the inside of the uterus) on the outside of the uterus. The most common sites for growth are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, lining the inside of the pelvic cavity, cervix, bladder, bowel, liver and lungs. Approximately 33% of women who suffer from chronic pelvic pain are found to have endometriosis. It is also found in 20-40% of women with infertility. Caucasian race, early onset of menarche, short menstrual cycles, and a first degree relative with endometriosis are all risk factors related for this disorder.

She takes pride in making her patients a priority as she cares for the physical and emotional needs of every woman who find themselves in her care. The main goal of minimally invasive surgery is to treat gynecological conditions without a large abdominal incision. This can be accomplished with various laparoscopic, robotic and hysteroscopic techniques.

Hysterectomy
Uterine leiomyomas (also called fibroids) are the most common solid pelvic tumors in women and the leading indication for hysterectomy. Although many women with uterine leiomyomas are asymptomatic and can be monitored without treatment, some will require more active measures. Many women seek an alternative to hysterectomy because they desire future childbearing or wish to retain their uterus even if they have completed childbearing. For women who desire uterine preservation, myomectomy may be an option. The goal of a myomectomy procedure is to remove the visible and accessible leiomyomas (fibroids) and then reconstruct the uterus. Traditionally, most myomectomies have been performed by laparotomy; however, endoscopic options are increasingly being used.
Laparoscopy
There are many reasons a provider may suggest the removal of your uterus. This can be done vaginally or through the abdomen using an abdominal wall incision or minimally invasive techniques by laparoscopy, with or without robotic-assistance. Your provider will help you make the decision as to which surgical option is appropriate for your specific case. All of these procedures are done in the operating room of the hospital. Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that uses a telescopic camera system to visualize your reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries). The surgeon makes tiny incisions (approximately 0.5 to 1 cm) in the abdomen through which a thin, fiber-optic tube fitted with a light and camera is inserted. Suspicious growths can be biopsied and repairs can be made during a laparoscopy, making more invasive surgery unnecessary. There are many advantages to use of a laparoscopy rather than an open abdominal surgery, including decreased blood loss, smaller abdominal incisions, less pain, shorter surgical recovery time, and no hospital stay requirement.
