We offer a wide array of vet services such as vaccinations, lab testing, surgery, and overall wellness. We have an in-house lab to get you the most accurate results as quickly as possible. We are a cat-friendly facility with exam rooms that are far away from the dogs that we care for. Our exam rooms have non-stainless steel counters with a "happy hormone" diffuser. Vaccination
Immunizations are based on current accepted recommendations, and tailored to each individual patient based on their risks. Puppies and kittens are well boostered to establish adequate immunity. Dr. Rivers uses only the safest made vaccines for cats and dogs, utilizes three-year vaccines when possible, and tries to take a minimalist approach without compromising protection.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Veterinary medicine encompasses a wide range of disciplines. The entire staff at Angel Oak Animal Hospital is highly proficient in internal medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, hematology, immunology, endocrinology, cardiology, pharmacology, and toxicology, to name a few. Board certified specialists are available for complex cases or advanced diagnostics.
Comprehensive Examination
Wellness testing can help catch many conditions early before they become serious illnesses. We highly recommend lab work for pets prior to any anesthetic event and every 6 months for dogs over the age of 7 and cats over the age of 9. Please ask your veterinarian about which tests your pet may need during your pet’s next wellness exam.

Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Elizabeth Rivers grew up in the small town of Pickens, SC. She spent much of her childhood dreaming of becoming a veterinarian and spent the next 18 years achieving that goal. She has been working in veterinary clinics for 11 years. She started as a kennel assistant and became a veterinary assistant. In 2009, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. She graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Beta Beta Beta honor society. At the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine she focused on small animal medicine and surgery and was a member of Phi Zeta honor society. In 2014 she graduated cum laude with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. She was practicing small animal veterinary medicine in Columbia, SC prior to moving to Charleston. She is a member of the South Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Dr. Rivers’ interests include preventive care, soft tissue surgery, and behavior. She lives on Johns Island, SC with her husband, their 3 dogs, and their cat. Her interests outside veterinary medicine include spending time with her family, volleyball, and woodworking.
Spaying and Neutering
After moving to the area, Amy quickly got involved in helping feral cats and started a rescue group to spay and neuter them. In 1999, her love for helping animals led her to a job in a veterinary clinic. She has held positions as receptionist, veterinary technician, and office manager.
