Sal & Mookies NY Pizza & Ice Cream Joint

Sal and Mookies is a great place if you aren't looking for a quite dinner date. It's definitely a family atmosphere and a bit noisy, but that can be good for those of us with yelling babies! There are always people up walking around. It has a very open atmosphere. The food is really good and the ice cream is very yummy! =)

I am a self proclaimed pizza expert. I travel half of the year and eat at a lot of Pizza joints. This place has some of the most original pizzas that I have seen. Great atmosphere too, especially if you bring children.

I never heard of Sal & Mookies until like 6 months ago, but it was absolutely WONDERFUL! The atmosphere, food, people. It's a great time!

The food and service is AMAZING! So many choices on the menu I can bring entire family! It is great for all ages! Definitly my favorite place to eat!

Choose from a huge selections or toppings or go with one of their crazy pizzas already created for you! I have to say, that if you don't want to share and/or want leftovers for dinner that night - get any pizza made into a calzone!

I have mixed emotions about Sal & Mookies. I’ve been here several times and I can say upfront the food is way overpriced. I can justify paying this much at other restaurants that Jeff and Dan own (like Bravo) but come on guys it’s pizza for crying out loud. The outdoor area is nice but the inside is almost always noisy and chaotic. The last time we dined there our waiter was all over the place shunning our table for a table full of high school kids that barely ordered anything and didn’t even leave the poor guy a tip. Our waiter took 20 minutes to take our drink orders and only refilled our drinks once which resulted in a disastrous dump of ice water into the leftover pizza we were going to carry home. I know these people are trying to have success with a new restaurant but I think it got TOO busy TOO fast. They are obviously trying to solve things on the fly at the expense of an enjoyable dining experience. Honestly I can take or leave Sal & Mookies at this stage of the game. It’s certainly not NY pizza (real NY slices have real Italian sausage not ground up imitation) and I know for certain that it IS NOT the BEST Pizza in Jackson as some people have already crowned it. Pizza Shack, Soul Shine or Old Venice are in a whole different league. Another issue I have is the safety in and around the location. I understand the efforts to revitalize Fondren and there IS an off duty police officer who monitors the parking lot but that lot fills up fast (especially on the weekends). My car was broken into only a few hundred feet away in 2007 and drugs are sold in the neighborhoods just down the street. I guess I applaud the efforts of the restaurant up to this point and can’t wait to see how things turn out once the owners and the City of Jackson get the kinks worked out.
