AllergiesCollagen is a natural protein that supports the skin. Injectable collagen formulas derived from human dermis include Cosmoderm?Ǭ or Cosmoplast?Ǭ. Zyderm?Ǭ and Zyplast?Ǭ are forms of bovine collagen that, unlike human derived collagen, require prior allergy testing. The results may last 2 to 4 months.
Weight ManagementFollowing weight reduction surgery, or any substantial amount of weight loss, the skin and tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. As a result, skin that has been severely stretched now is unsupported...
Carpal Tunnel SyndromeCarpal tunnel release -- After the endoscope is inserted through a small incision in the wrist area, the surgeon locates the median nerve, which runs down the center of the wrist. A separate incision may be made in the palm to insert scissors or scalpel to cut the ligament putting pressure on the nerve.
MammographyLack of implant permanence -- surgical removal or replacement of the implants may be required to treat problems, including: deflation; the formation of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture), which may cause the breast to feel tight or hard; bleeding or infection. Increase or decrease in sensitivity of nipples or breast skin, occasionally permanent. Mammography requires a special technique.
UltrasoundUltrasound: A diagnostic procedure that projects high frequency sound waves into the body and records the echoes as pictures.
MRIA leaking implant filled with silicone gel may not collapse. If you choose these implants, you may need to visit your plastic surgeon regularly to make sure the implants are functioning properly. An ultrasound or MRI screening can assess the condition of breast implants.
General SurgeryDr. Socas received his medical degree with highest distinction from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina where he received awards for his scholastic achievement. After graduating, he attended one of the premier General Surgery Residencies at Indiana University School of Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Keith D. Lillemoe.
Wound CareDr. Socas’ interests include microsurgery, breast surgery and microsurgical breast reconstruction, lymphedema surgery including vascularized lymph node transfers and lymphovenous anastomoses, cancer reconstruction (including head and neck reconstruction, Sarcoma and skin cancer excision/reconstruction, and Mohs reconstruction), complex nasal reconstruction, aesthetic surgery of the face (facelift, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, brow lift), breast (augmentation, mastopexy, reduction), and body (abdominoplasty, mommy-make over, body contouring after weight loss), as well as trauma reconstruction (complex lacerations, facial fractures, hand/extremity fractures and trauma reconstruction), complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and wound care/reconstruction.
Ear SurgeryFor the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.
Hand SurgeryDr. Hartman’s areas of expertise and interest include acute burn surgery, as well as burn reconstruction, as well as hand surgery and the complete breadth of cosmetic surgery.
Reconstructive SurgeryDr. Youssef Tahiri is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with a subspecialty in Craniofacial Surgery. After graduating from McGill Medical School in Montreal, Canada, he completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at McGill University and became certified by the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. During his residency, he demonstrated his commitment to research and academia by pursuing a Masters Degree in Experimental Surgery, which he obtained with Honors.
Acne TreatmentAs late as 1993, Retin-A® had not received approval for use as an anti-aging treatment from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It has received FDA approval as an acne treatment, and doctors have been safely using it for this purpose for more than two decades. However, the full scope of Retin-A®'s effects and potential benefits continues to investigated.
Chemical PeelsChemical peel is especially useful for the fine wrinkles on cheeks, forehead, and around the eyes, and the vertical wrinkles around the mouth.
Skin CareAlphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who can't spare the time to recover from a phenol or TCA peel. AHA peels may be used to treat fine wrinkling, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. Various concentrations of an AHA may be applied weekly or at longer intervals to obtain the best result. Your doctor will make this decision during your consultation and as the treatment proceeds. An alphahydroxy acid, such as glycolic acid, can also be mixed with a facial wash or cream in lesser concentrations as part of a daily skin-care regimen to improve the skin's texture.
MicrodermabrasionMicrodermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. The plastic surgeon uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.
EndoscopyEndoscopy is a surgical technique that involves the use of an endoscope, a special viewing instrument that allows a surgeon to see images of the body's internal structures through very small incisions.
BotoxThe cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
Brow LiftIf you are bothered by expression lines or other signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you. A brow lift...
Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery is usually performed on adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles and have realistic goals for improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids and surrounding area.
LiposuctionAlso known as lipoplasty, liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image.
Breast AugmentationBreast augmentation is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else's desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.
Breast ReductionAfter completing his training, Dr. Sood joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana and became a member of University Plastic Surgeons based at the IU School of Medicine. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Surgery in 1996. He became the Medical Director of the Richard Fairbanks Burn Center in 1992, which is a nationally recognized center for burn care and wound healing. He serves on the Christel DeHaan Foundation Board of Directors, the Peoples Burn Foundation Board of Directors and various hospital committees. He has presented over 100 papers nationally and internationally. He has won numerous awards for his research interests, including his primary research interest of assessing the physiological effects of breast reduction surgery. He has assisted in the production of multiple public service announcements and video tapes intended to assist families and children with burn and fire prevention.
Breast LiftOver time, your breasts can change due to aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors and gravity. If, after a period of years, you become dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts, you may choose to undergo a breast lift or implant exchange to restore a more youthful contour.
RhinoplastyAlso known as rhinoplasty, surgery of the nose improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self confidence.
Breast ReconstructionDr. Lester practices in all areas of plastic surgery including reconstruction for cancer, trauma and post surgical difficulties. She maintains an interest in breast reconstruction including implant and perforator flap breast reconstruction including DIEP, SIEA, GAP and PAP flap reconstruction. Dr. Lester is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is also dual certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Plastic SurgeryUniversity Plastic Surgeons is the largest plastic surgery group in Indiana and one of the largest in the Midwest. Thigh LiftThere are a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures, such as Thigh Lift, that our practice performs. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving more information on this particular procedure.
Face LiftThe chemical solution can be applied to the entire face, or to a specific area -for example, around the mouth - sometimes in conjunction with a facelift.
Neck LiftSagging jowls, loose neck skin and fat accumulation under the chin may be corrected with a neck lift. The neck lift incision often begins in front of the ear lobe and wraps around behind the ear ending in the lower scalp.
BlepharoplastyAlso known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.
AbdominoplastyAlso known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin, and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
Nose SurgeryChin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
Body LiftA complete lower body lift treats sagging buttocks, abdomen, waist, hips and outer thighs in one procedure or in staged procedures. Incision patterns vary, and may include a circumferential incision around the body to remove the "belt" of excess skin and fat.
Breast SurgeryDr. Sood's primary interests include cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, cosmetic surgery of the trunk and body, burn reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, and reconstructive surgery after massive weight loss. His background and 14 years of experience at Indiana University bring a unique experience and focus to his reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery practice.
OtoplastyEar surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears.
Lip AugmentationSoft tissue augmentation of the lips requires multiple injections to distribute the filler for enhanced lip fullness and to raise or define a cupid's bow or vermillion border.
Body ContouringBody contouring is often performed in stages. Your particular condition and goals, as well as your plastic surgeon's best judgment, will all influence how your doctor defines a surgical plan. While it may have taken you two years or more to lose all the excess weight, it may take equally as long for the results of your body contouring to be complete.
Laser ResurfacingIn laser skin resurfacing a laser is used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer. The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines, especially around the mouth and the eyes. However, it is also effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often, the procedure is done in conjunction with another cosmetic operation, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.
GynecomastiaWith attention to some unique patient characteristics, breast reduction surgery achieves good aesthetic outcomes in bodybuilders with gynecomastia—enlargement of the male breast, according to a report in the February issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Cosmetic SurgerySpecializing in total face and body cosmetic surgery, these seven board-certified plastic surgeons are recognized around the world for their excellent surgical results as well as their leadership as authors, lecturers, and professors.
DermabrasionDermabrasion and dermaplaning can smooth scars left by acne, accidents, or previous surgery, as well as fine facial wrinkles, especially those around the mouth.
Facial ImplantsPlastic surgeons use facial implants to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, these implants will help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features so that you feel better about the way you look.
Forehead LiftAlso known as a forehead lift, a brow lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose; improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines; and repositions a low or sagging brow.
