BracesThird, these trays are removable. You can (and should) remove the trays for each meal and during tooth brushing and flossing. You can eat a normal, healthy diet without restricting foods that might get stuck in or damage metal braces. Since the trays do not interfere with normal hygiene by making flossing more challenging, you may be less likely to experience tooth decay and gingivitis as a side effect of orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign OrthodonticsOnce your trays arrive, installation is as simple as placing them over your teeth. You must wear these trays at least 22 hours per day. Every two-to-three weeks, you will move on to the next set of trays in your treatment series. This way, you keep constant, gentle pressure on your teeth to move them into the correct position. You will need a quick checkup visit every six weeks or so to ensure treatment is progressing as planned. Invisalign® trays don’t require any special care. You can simply brush them gently and rinse them with warm water whenever you take them out.
Dental ImplantsTooth implants provide a natural-looking appearance and long-lasting function. They are the gold standard for smile makeovers and dental restoration. If you are in the Indianapolis area and have lost one or more teeth to fractures, gum disease or tooth decay, Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht can help you regain your beautiful smile.
BridgesDental bridges are a commonly recommended treatment for replacing one or more missing teeth with realistic prosthetics. Although adult tooth loss in the U.S. is decreasing overall, a high percentage of people do lose one or more teeth to gum disease, cavities or fracture at some point. According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, adults lose an average of one-to-two permanent teeth (not counting wisdom teeth) before the age of 50.
Restorative DentistryDental crowns are often used in conjunction with other restorative dentistry treatments. For example, crowns can anchor a bridge in place on either side of a missing tooth. With dental implants, a porcelain crown is the finishing touch to create a natural looking smile again.
Dental BondingThis type of bridge uses metal bands and dental bonding resin to attach a pontic to adjacent teeth. The metal bands are positioned on the backside of the support teeth to make them less noticeable. This approach does not require extensive preparation of the adjacent teeth, since they do not receive crowns. A resin bonded or “Maryland” bridge is sometimes used for restoring front teeth.
FillingsGold fillings are an option for patients who prefer a metal filling. Gold is an excellent filling material, but has two drawbacks: they do not match the color of the tooth, and they can’t be bonded to teeth. They are very durable, but are often not as protective to the tooth.
Resin CompositeThey’re also called white restorations. Unlike porcelain, they require no lab fabrication. The dentist fills the cavity with a resin paste, which is hardened and bonded to your tooth by exposure to a high intensity curing light. These are not as strong or durable as porcelain, and usually require more frequent replacement.
VeneersPorcelain veneers are available at our Indianapolis office for patients who want to achieve their ideal smile. Porcelain veneers are custom fabricated to match each patient’s aesthetic preferences. They are bonded in place with strong dental cement for a long-lasting smile makeover. To learn more about porcelain veneers and other cosmetic procedures, contact North Meridian Dental Excellence today. We are happy to schedule your appointment with Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht.
CrownsDental crowns are long-lasting and durable tooth restorations. Indianapolis dentist Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht ensures that his patients are happy and comfortable with their crowns. Modern porcelain crowns are beautiful, life-like, blend in with the other teeth, and are nearly indestructible. Unlike cosmetic dental treatments, crowns are usually included in dental plan coverage. This makes them a budget-friendly option for tooth restoration. Dental crowns from our Indianapolis office are designed to strengthen and restore damaged and decayed teeth. Crowns are one of the most commonly used tooth restorations because they are affordable, easy to install, and covered by many dental insurance plans. To learn more about dental crowns, contact Dr. Ahlbrecht at North Meridian Dental Excellence today.
Root Canal TreatmentAn old-fashioned amalgam (silver) filling is made up of 50% mercury, and 50% silver and other metals. The mercury expands and contracts with hot and cold, causing many teeth to eventually crack and fracture. This can lead to pain, the potential need for root canals, and later extensive restorations or tooth loss. White fillings contain no mercury, so expand and contract minimally with temperature extremes. In addition, they are actually strongly bonded to your tooth, adding strength back to your tooth. The result is much less opportunity for cracking and fracture. Because Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht firmly believes black silver amalgam is a poor restorative material, we do not offer it as an option in our office, and have not placed an amalgam in many years.
DenturesDentures offer patients with substantial or complete tooth loss a way to regain oral function and a natural looking smile again. According to the CDC, one out of every four Americans over the age of 65 has lost all of their teeth. If you are one of these patients, you may have learned to live without teeth. But you know what a toll this can take on your well-being and your social life. Missing teeth make it difficult to eat a healthy diet or speak clearly. You’ve probably learned to avoid smiling, and you may feel embarrassed about your appearance. Over time, extreme tooth loss may lead to the collapse of your facial features and wrinkling around the mouth.
Tooth WhiteningTeeth whitening is a very effective and non-invasive way to roll back the years. Whiter teeth make your smile look more youthful, healthy, and attractive. Treatment is simple and can be done in the dentist’s office or at home. Teeth whitening at our Indianapolis office is an affordable and simple procedure for creating a brighter and more vibrant smile. Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht has established himself as a teeth whitening expert to help his patients in the Indianapolis area get the smile of their dreams. Teeth CleaningYellow and brown stains can make your teeth appear dirty – even when you brush and floss faithfully. Most “whitening toothpastes” contain no real whitening agent. They simply remove surface stain – the same stain that is removed by a dental cleaning. Most of tooth darkening comes from inside the teeth, and the only way to significantly change the color of your teeth is by using a “bleaching” agent that penetrates under the surface. This teeth whitening procedure will give you the confidence of a dazzling smile that Dr. Ahlbrecht is determined to provide to his Indianapolis patients.
Dental SealantsThese preventive treatments are usually recommended for children to limit tooth decay. However, adults can also request these procedures. Fluoride gel is applied topically a few times per year. Dental sealant is brushed onto the chewing surfaces of molars where tiny grooves in the enamel can’t be adequately cleaned by a toothbrush. Contact us for more information.
Oral Cancer ScreeningThis involves a visual examination of the teeth, gums and jaw to check for signs of decay, disease, bite misalignment, crooked or poorly spaced teeth, and other abnormalities. X-rays, TMJ and oral cancer screenings fall into this category. Contact us for more information.
Dental ExaminationThe treatment process starts with a visual dental exam and a consultation. Photos, x-rays and computer imaging are used to create a precise treatment plan that will deliver the results you want. This digital technology lets you see what your final smile will look like before you even start using Invisalign®. Molds of your upper and lower teeth are sent to the Invisalign® laboratory so your aligner trays can be custom made. All of the trays used during your treatment are created at the same time.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral SurgeryDr. Ahlbrecht treats all types of dental needs with attention to detail, including cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, endodontics (root canals), oral surgery (tooth extractions), crowns and bridges, dentures, and partial dentures. Dr. Ahlbrecht and his dental team welcome patients of any age to the state-of-the-art office at North Meridian Dental Excellence, and they are committed to providing the highest quality dental care in an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. Maintaining patient comfort at all times, Dr. Ahlbrecht is dedicated to helping patients attain and maintain their ideal smile for a lifetime.
Tooth ExtractionsExtractions range from pulling baby molars that have splintered, to removing decayed or damaged adult teeth. A family dentist can also perform simple wisdom tooth extractions. This procedure is easiest to do before children reach their late teens. Contact us for more information.
Bone GraftingIf you have lost, or are congenitally missing one or more teeth, we recommend speaking with Dr. Ben Ahlbrecht about getting the dental implants from our Indianapolis office. There is no upper age limit for this treatment. The most important factor in success rates for implants is bone density. Patients who have very advanced periodontitis (gum disease) may not have enough bone left to hold an implant. They may need one or more bone grafting procedures before they can get tooth implants. Smokers have more complications during healing than non-smokers, so if you smoke, we recommend quitting before you undergo this dental treatment.
