Dr. Nicholas Countryman is an Indianapolis native having graduated from Brebeuf Jesuit High School. He then graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received his Doctorate of Medicine from Yale School of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management. Dr. Countryman completed his Medical Internship at the Indiana University Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics and his Dermatology Residency at the Indiana University Department of Dermatology, Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Countryman became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2009.
Primary Care
In the mid-1960s physicians and educators recognized both a shortage and uneven distribution of primary care physicians. To expand the delivery of quality medical care, Dr. Eugene Stead of the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina assembled the first class of physician assistants in 1965. For this class he selected Navy corpsmen who received considerable medical training in the military and during the war in Vietnam. He based the curriculum of the PA program in part on his knowledge of the fast-track training of doctors during World War II.
Family Practice
Physician assistants in dermatology diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions. Building on their primary care background, PAs are trained in dermatology in a variety of ways. Most PAs working in dermatology are trained by their supervising dermatologist and together they decide the practice style, supervision arrangements and delegation of services appropriate for their practice. Most PAs work independently within a dermatology office and see a wide range of medical, surgical and cosmetic patients similar to a staff dermatologist. PAs, however, are always supervised directly by a dermatologist. PAs get additional training through their required CME hours, attendance at academy meetings/ medical conferences, dermatology grand rounds and self-study courses. Some PAs hold a master’s degree in physician assistant studies with a concentration in dermatology. Many PAs lecture at university PA programs and offer dermatology rotations to PA students. Some are dermatology clinical preceptors to family practice residents.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Dawes is a native of Wabash, Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed an Internal Medicine residency with board certification at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and a Dermatology residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine and received board certification from the American Board of Dermatology in 1995.

Valerie studied Communications & Business at Marian University. She began her career working closely with patients in Diabetes Care for a pharmaceutical company. She then trained and was licensed in Esthetics in 2013. Valerie has participated in many advanced training courses in skincare & esthetics services. She was selected to attend the National Training Summit for Sciton Lasers in Dallas, Texas -November of 2017.

Wound Care
Second intention healing – The body has an excellent capacity to heal open wounds. This healing period is approximately three to six weeks depending on the size of the wound. It requires regular wound care.
Mohs Surgery

Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Countryman completed a micrographic and dermatologic oncology and reconstructive surgery (Mohs) fellowship at the Skin Surgery Center in Winston-Salem NC He was certified by the American College of Mohs Surgery in 2010. He has extensive experience in the removal of complex skin cancers and the subsequent reconstruction required to repair the surgical wound. We are excited to offer his expertise to our patients.

Botox
Dr. Fretzin joined Dr. Dawes in 1997. Together they have directed the growth of the practice to encompass all aspects of dermatology including general and pediatric, surgical, cosmetic and research. They also established a med spa and offer cosmetic services such as Botox® injections, laser treatment, and chemical peels. In 2004, the doctors opened Dawes Fretzin Clinical Research Group and have since participated in numerous clinical studies. They have researched new medications for skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, skin cancer, and acne. They have also investigated new agents for non-dermatologic conditions such as diabetes.
Laser Resurfacing
Marisa has advanced training in microneedle, PRP, chemicals peels, and laser. Some of her favorite procedures are Hydrafacials, dermaplane, BBL, Halo, and laser resurfacing. She enjoys working with acne, pigmentation and sun damage, and skin rejuvenation. Marisa is always up for a challenge!

Skin Cancer
There are two primary advantages. First, by using microscopic examination of the tissue as a guide, the Mohs surgeon is better able to remove all of the skin cancer. Secondly, by carefully mapping out the tumor, the surgeon removes cancerous tissue and leaves as much normal skin as possible.

You can also use acne treatment products that are appropriate for your skin type, such as retinoids, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. Call your dermatologist or schedule a virtual visit to discuss the best acne treatments for your skin if you have never used them before.

These online appointments may be utilized for localized skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, rashes, eczema and psoriasis, as well as evaluation of individual suspicious spots. Virtual appointments are not be appropriate for full body skin checks, annual skin exams or any procedures (warts/cysts/etc.)
Lesions
Levulan® Kerastick® plus blue light illumination using the BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator (Levulan PDT) is indicated for the treatment of minimally to moderately thick actinic keratosis of the face or scalp. Actinic keratoses (AKs) are rough-textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that can lead to skin cancer. It is important to treat AKs because there is no way to tell when or which lesions will progress to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common form of skin cancer. So, now’s the time to manage your damage!
Chemical Peels
She’s had extensive training in Hydrafacial, Microneedling, PRP & several laser services including Laser hair removal, BBL and Halo. She also performs chemical peels, dermaplaning and personalized facials.
