In My Book: Health
BracesPorcelain veneers allow us the ability to completely transform your smile into one you can be proud of for years. Advanced technology in the field of cosmetic dentistry has allowed us the ability to give patients white, straight, and natural looking teeth without the use of braces or surgery.
OrthodonticsPorcelain veneers provide an immediate smile makeover for our patients in Houston. Cosmetic dentistry can offer porcelain veneers to mask stains, spacing issues, and poorly contoured teeth. Drastic improvements are achieved by prosthodontist Dr. Tijana Stijacic without requiring additional procedures such as orthodontics or tooth whitening.
Dental ImplantsIn order to place an implant that will be most successful, it may be necessary to modify the jawbone to create the most ideal site to receive the implant. Piezosurgery is often used to perform those surgeries that are needed.
BridgesCrowns and bridges are used in our Houston cosmetic dentistry practice to restore the appearance and function of decayed or even missing teeth. A dental crown is basically a cap that fits over your existing tooth and is shaped and shaded to blend in with the surrounding teeth. A dental crown may be used by Dr. Tijana Stijacic, our prosthodontist, to correct staining, cracks, or frail tooth structure.
FillingsComposite fillings are generally used in place of the traditional, metal amalgam fillings. Composite fillings are more attractive than their metal counterpart, more versatile, and are able to bolster your tooth structure. The resin material used to create composite fillings is colored to match your teeth, making this type of filling very popular in Houston cosmetic dentistry. Prosthodontist Dr. Tijana Stijacic will recommend composite fillings over the placement of metal amalgam in a variety of dental restoration cases
VeneersPorcelain veneers are thin shells designed to look just like your natural teeth, only better. With this Houston cosmetic dentistry method, a multitude of cosmetic dental issues may be corrected.
CrownsOcclusal, or bite, adjustment is a procedure performed to remove tiny interferences that keep teeth from coming together properly. These interferences can prevent the jaw from closing in its anatomically correct position. Interferences can develop as teeth develop, can occur following an accident, or they can accumulate over time with wear. Dental work such as fillings, crowns, bridges, and extractions can also cause interferences.
Root Canal TreatmentIn some instances the doctor will perform an immediate root canal to remove the nerve of the tooth and replace it with plastic material so as to prevent infection and further dental procedures.
DenturesDentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
Tooth WhiteningA dental crown may be used to cap a tooth that is severely stained and resistant to Houston cosmetic dentistry tooth whitening agents.
Cosmetic DentistryComposite fillings can be shaded to match your existing teeth, and therefore can be used in Houston cosmetic dentistry practices to repair any chipping, wear, or decay to the front teeth undetected.
Oral Cancer ScreeningOral pathology involves diagnosing and treating diseases of the mouth such as cysts, tumors, and precancerous and cancerous lesions. Many patients experience unusual changes in the mouth, teeth, gums, tongue, or throat that may be caused by disease. Diagnosing diseases in the mouth as early as possible is very important. The earlier a disease is diagnosed, the faster treatment and healing can begin.
Dental ExaminationMinimal sedation relieves the anxiety patients feel before and during their dental exam. However, minimal sedation allows patients to respond verbally and physically to the dentist’s directions. The patient will be awake but calm and may remember parts of the experience after the procedure is completed.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral SurgeryPiezosurgery is a recently developed system for cutting bone without damaging soft tissue using ultrasonic micro-vibrations. Developed for use in Oral Surgery, Implantology, and Periodontics, this innovative technology allows doctors to perform procedures that were not previously possible.
Flap SurgeryOsseous surgery, or flap surgery, is usually performed when a pocket around a tooth (or teeth) has not responded to other treatments. The procedure is performed in order to create a clean environment around the tooth so that the tooth can be retained rather than lost. Osseous surgery is generally tried only after other treatments have been explored and tried and usually is performed when the pocket depth has worsened over time.
Gum SurgeryLANAP® is a laser surgical procedure performed by our Houston periodontist that eliminates the bacteria that cause the bleeding gums, inflammation, and other symptoms associated with gum disease. LANAP® is performed by our Houston periodontist with the PerioLase® MVP-7™ and is the only FDA cleared protocol for the treatment of periodontal disease. Dr. Valentini offers this laser gum surgery as patients experience less pain and discomfort than they do with traditional surgery.
Tooth ExtractionsDental extractions are performed for a variety of reasons including tooth decay, injury, and for orthodontic treatment. Extractions are a relatively common procedure in most dental offices. The difficulty of the procedure varies depending on the case and the patient, however anesthesia is used to numb the area and prevent pain during the procedure.
Ridge AugmentationRidge augmentation is a common procedure performed to help recreate the natural contour of the gums. Often, after a tooth is removed, the bone in the jaw will begin to deteriorate and recede. The height and width of the socket, which was supported by the tooth, will begin to shrink after the tooth is removed. Many patients will eventually develop an indentation in the gums or jawbone where the tooth used to be.
Bone GraftingThe dentist may place a mixture of your bone marrow and some bone-grafting material around the bone graft to help speed healing. The incision is then closed with stitches.
Gingivectomy and GingivoplastyA gingivectomy is usually performed when a patient has severe periodontal disease that cannot be cured with scaling and root planing or other periodontal procedures. Gingivectomies are performed to remove and reshape loose, diseased gum tissue and to reduce the depth of pockets between the teeth and gums.
