Orthodontics For Children & Adults
Corner Of Dairy Ashford & Barryknoll
BracesSome children and teens need the assistance of periodontic treatment before, during, of after their braces. Examples of these patients are those cases of missing teeth, impacted teeth, excess gum tissue between teeth, inadequate gum tissue around teeth, etc. Drs. Aldo and Aurora Sordelli work together in these cases to ensure the most efficient and effective treatment.
OrthodonticsAt Sordelli Orthodontics and Periodontics, we love to make our patients smile! For more than 10 years, our practice has taken great care to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our patients. We think of each patient as a part of our family, and only give the highest quality treatments that we would provide for our spouses and children.
Invisalign OrthodonticsInvisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. So you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to treat with Invisalign.
Dental ImplantsBone regeneration can also benefit patients with missing teeth and those who don't qualify for dental implants. Dental implants require a significant amount of jawbone prior to the procedure in order to be successful. Bone regeneration can help patients who suffer from a deteriorated jawbone support their restorations or prepare for an implant dentistry procedure.
BridgesA dental implant provides several advantages over other tooth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like a natural tooth, a dental implant replaces a single tooth without sacrificing the health of neighboring teeth. The other common treatment for the loss of a single tooth, a tooth-supported fixed bridge, requires that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the cemented bridge.
CrownsYou may have asked your periodontist about procedures to improve a "gummy" smile because your teeth appear short. Your teeth may actually be the proper lengths, but they're covered with too much gum tissue. To correct this, your periodontist performs a dental crown lengthening procedure.
DenturesKeep your retainer clean, too, by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may also soak it in denture cleaner as instructed by your orthodontist. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.
Teeth CleaningIf overly aggressive brushing techniques are eroding the gums, a softer toothbrush and a gentler brushing technique should be used. If poor oral hygiene is a problem, prophylaxis (professional dental cleaning) may be recommended to rid the gum pockets of debris and bacteria. In the case of a severe calculus (tartar) build up, scaling and root planing will be performed to heal the gingival inflammation and clean the teeth.
Dental ExaminationYou will be greeted by Sonya or Kim and then taken to one of the periodontic operatories. Dr. Aldo Sordelli will then review your medical and dental history and perform a detailed oral exam. Any necessary X-rays will be taken to aid in your diagnosis. He will then explain his findings and different possibilities of treatment to address your particular situation.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral SurgeryEvery orthodontist starts out in dental school. Upon completion of dental school, some graduates immediately go into practice as dentists. Others choose to pursue a specialty, which requires additional schooling during a two- to three-year residency program. There are nine specialties sanctioned by the American Dental Association. Some you are likely familiar with: Pediatric Dentistry (dentistry for children), Periodontics (dentistry focusing on the gums), and Oral Surgery.
Jaw SurgeryThe main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include...
Gum SurgeryI am 57. I was told by my dentist 10 years ago that I might need gum surgery but I managed to get by with regular cleaning until a few years ago. Following a referral from my dentist, Dr Sordelli provided me with gum surgery due to my having pockets measuring 6 and 7 and not getting better. His surgery was professional, timely, and without complications. Now, a year or so on, regular follow-ups with Dr Sordelli have given me clean and healthy gums. I currently have only one 5 measurement, the majority are 2-3.
Osseous SurgeryYour bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth like a turtleneck around your neck. When you have periodontal disease, this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, forming "pockets" around the teeth.
Ridge AugmentationRidge augmentation can fill in this defect recapturing the natural contour of the gums and jaw. A new tooth can then be created that is natural looking, easy to clean and beautiful.
Bone GraftingAutogenous bone graft – In this type of graft the bone is removed from elsewhere in the body and implanted in the mouth. Common donor sites for bone grafting include the iliac section of the pelvis, the chin and the posterior third molar areas of the jaw. If large amounts of bone need to be harvested, the hip or the shin bone (tibia) is generally used.
