Alan Wong's Restaurant

Located on the thirdfloor of a nondescript office building, this award-winning restaurant was created by Alan Wong, peerless master of Hawaii regional cuisine and fish preparations like steamed opakapaka, a nori-wrapped ahi appetizer and ginger-crusted onaga. Wong's superb meat and fowl dishes include macadamia nut- and coconut-crusted lamb chops and Chinatown roast duck nacho.

The location of the restaurant may not be the most impressive, but once you enter you are in another world. The restaurant is atop a smallish office building on King Street. No views of the ocean from here. That said, the food is fabulous. Alan Wong also is responsible for the Pineapple Room at Macy's at the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The food at Alan Wong's, however, is decidedly more upscale. If you want a great show, sit at the "bar" that looks into the kitchen. You have have a conversation with the chef as you dish is prepared.
