Child Support
I am a native of Seattle, Washington and attended college and law school in the Pacific Northwest. My legal career spans more than 20 years, primarily dedicated to the areas of family/juvenile justice and criminal law. During law school, I clerked at the Multnomah County DA's office in the domestic violence unit and gained valuable trial experience. For my first job out of law school, I moved to Guam with my wife and young son where I worked as an Assistant Attorney General, prosecuting child support and juvenile matters. I returned to the Portland area and resumed a long career in government service, starting with the Marion County DA's Office as a special statewide liaison to the Oregon Child Support Program, overseeing program administration and policy matters. I missed the courtroom and took a position in the Washington County DA's Office as a Deputy District Attorney, handling child support enforcement cases. I transferred to the juvenile prosecution unit and enjoyed a lengthy tenure handling dependency and delinquency cases that touched the lives of children, youth and their families. Later in my career, I worked in the criminal prosecution section, handling misdemeanor crimes where I experienced first-hand the shortcomings of the criminal justice system for many individuals.

I previously worked at the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services for nine years. I served as the Regional General Counsel and Supervising Attorney in Nashville and as an Assistant General Counsel. While with the Department, I litigated child abuse and neglect cases, termination of parental rights cases, and child abuse registry appeal cases. I left the Department as the Special Advisor to the Deputy Commissioner and Director of Community Partnerships in the Office of Child Safety. I was recently appointed to the Oregon Department of Justice’s Children’s Justice Act Task Force, which reviews and assesses how Oregon’s child protection and criminal justice systems handle child maltreatment cases and makes recommendations on how to limit additional trauma to children and their families.

I grew up in the Hillsboro Metro area and first gained an interest in law and criminal defense while I was attending high school. After I finished my undergraduate degree, I moved to Virginia to complete my Juris Doctorate, hoping to return to my hometown with my family one day. Right after graduation, I started my own firm in Roseburg, Oregon in early 2014. During my time in Roseburg, I served on the Douglas County criminal defense association. I relocated my office to Grants Pass, Oregon, joining a consortium of other defense attorneys, where I grew my office and focused on family law and criminal defense work. I have ample experience in family law ranging from property disputes to domestic violence cases, custody, and visitation enforcement. During these cases, you can expect my full support and encouragement to reach attainable goals that are best for you and your situation.
