        • I have been teaching obediences classes since 1978.
          It is one of the most rewarding parts of owning Hair Of the Dog! there is nothing better than seeing a dog with no direction turn into a well-behaved member of the family. Classes are held outdoors by the shop, so that dogs learn to work thru distractions of people passing by, kids & bicycles, sounds of horns, sirens, and even the train whistle. Classes are taught with an emphasis on positive reinforcement and treats.Classes are 8 weeks, one hour per week, with first and last class being 1+1/2 hour long.
        • Dogs are taught to Heel on lead
          the Leave It! command, Watch (to focus on owner), Automatic sits, Sit, Stand, and Down commands, Greeting a Stranger with a dog, Stand for Examination, One minute Sit-Stay, Three minute Down-Stay, Wait, and Come/Recall & Finish command. We will go over breaking bad habits, learning to speak DOG, and socialization. A graduation occurs on the final night of class.
        • Classes are held Spring thru Fall outdoors.
          Call HAIR OF THE DOG at 570-379-3049 for details and costs. A deposit to reserve your place in class is required and the remaining cost is to be paid at first class. The deposit is non-refundable, should you decide to drop out, as you are reserving a place in a class that someone else may desire. You will need a training collar, a six-foot leash(no flexi retractables), treats, and comfortable clothes. Please bring your own water and dish to hydrate your dog.

        I have been a customer of Hair of the Dog since 1999 - Melody (and Bonnie) are excellent not only with grooming, obedience teaching, breed knowledge and other such skills, but with their love and care of your pet(s). They are always accommodating and helpful to any special requests, needs or actions. 1999 thru 2011 Snoopy was the most loved and best groomed Westie in the Hazleton area; now in 2013 we begin a new journey with our baby Westie "Max". I would not take my baby anywhere else! Thank you Hair of the Dog for always taking care of my babies and me! Kathy Shutovich

        Best I've ever seen!!!!

        My Aunt has been taking her dog here for years and has had nothing but good things to say. I had recently taken my little puppy Fluffy here and not only did I love the cut, i loved how friendly they were and how much they loved my dog. They took such good care of my little Fluffy and she hasnt looked any better. That puppy salon is the best and i would recomend anyone i know to go there. My puppies love the treats and toys and they have such beautiful potery. Thank you so much to anyone that works at Hair Of The Dog Fluffy really needed that trim and she looks beautiful.         My dogs love to see their Auntie Mel and she is very gentle and loving to them. I've had dogs groomed there for 15 yrs and they always look great. They get bows and a rawhide lollipop when they leave. Great gifts and a doggy bakery too!

        I wasn't happy with the service at this shop. Groomer was ignorent and completly shaved my little dog down to nothing! I jst asked for a trim! He had been clipped like 3 weeks prior so he wan't matted or anything! Then when I asked her why she had gone so short she got very snippy...and then charged me a 45 bucks...for what?!

        I wasn't very pleased. When I returned to pick up my pet she was still working on him...which wasn't a problem but she was very rough with him. I was so upset. Then she was very rude to me because I arrived a few minutes early. Her prices are a bit high too...maybe if she handled my dog with a little more compasion I wouldn't mind paying a little more. I will never take my baby back there. Big mistake. :(

        The best decision I ever made! she actually tries to make friends before working on your dog.

        When i say his groomers name he luv's her so much he runs to the door to get groomed. She is careful and caring, and you can always count on good advice from her. She does the "best" work.

        very knowlegable and helpful. Excellent care taken with the animals.

        Good variety of items. Unusual gift ideas and products for my dog. Owner is easy to deal with and is very informed on all the latest products and what will make my dog happy. Nice variety of toys and treats as well as good sourse for information on keeping my dog in good coat and looking great. Perfectionist in her grooming, every dog looks great and feels very special. Her main concern is always my animals welfare.

        Anyone that has the patience to groom, not one, but three newfies is wonderful! She took the time to brush through mats, and make my guys look (and smell :-) beautiful. I've also had all of mine to her for obedience classes...and my guys just LOVE her homemade treats!!
