Dauphin County Prison is an adult detention facility that houses more than 1,000 inmates on a daily basis. It offers a range of counseling services to prisoners with drug addictions. The facility also conducts educational and life skills development classes. Dauphin County Prison is a part of the Criminal Justice Department, which works to prevent crimes and enforces laws and ordinances. The department maintains a criminal investigation division that has child abuse, capital area forensics and intelligence units, as well as administers a tobacco compliance program. The Criminal Justice Department operates youth centers and facilities, as well as provides the Victim/Witness Assistance Program. The Criminal Justice Department is governed by Dauphin County in Pennsylvania.
