IHOP

My girlfriend and I decided to go out to dinner. Our money was somewhat tight, but we wanted to be able to sit down and enjoy a meal with our infant son. I love Ihop, and we usually go to this location. We also normally get decent to aabove average service. I'm guessing they had the "C" crew this night. The Hostess offered us a booth and sling for our carseat. The dining room wasn't very full, I spotted 3 or 4 clean booths. The hostess for some reason didn't want to give us a booth because she "didn't want to block in these guys". I told her it was fine and we took a table next to the 3 or 4 empty booths. Our server, I can't remember her name, greeted us and took our drinks quickly. She returned a few minutes later to take our orders and drop off our drinks. We didn't order a large check by anymeans. I've worked in many types of restaurants, and I know it's not a false accusation to say smaller checks get less attention from most servers. She was timely with delivering our meals, but never asked if everything was good. I would've loved even the slightest bit of this employees time to tell her my soda was flat. She didn't check on us or even peak by AT ALL after delivering our food. I had to go to the hostess to get my check and file a missing person report for our MIA server. It pains me to say we left no tip. My gf and I usually tip 20% or above, even with questionable service. I refuse to pay someone for a job they did not do. I've noticed when customers complain about service, the cashier usually forgets all about the Surveys and giving receipts. This is why I'm reviewing on YP and not to their Corporate. I was going to let it go, as Frozen has taught us all, but to see them laughing and I'm sure complaining about her non existant tip while I'm watching them from the parkinglot crossed the line. I am a restaurant manager, and I know this is not how you treat people. I know many servers who break their back to earn their tips. I am personally insulted by this server's "check bigotry", and the hostess's insincere apology. The apparently sleep deprived manager, who was yawning, wasn't very concerned with the report of our missing server. I know the next time I am willing to pay for food and service on a tight budget, it will NOT be with this Ihop location.

Good food w. reasonable, but not generous, portions of many meals. Moderately priced. Good-to-excellent service. Participates in some rewards programs w. other companies.
