DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOORS TO SALE...

DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOORS TO SALESMAN FROM OMEGA MEATS!!!! Last week some stranger came knocking at my door. (I live out in the middle of nowhere – partially to avoid having strangers knock at my door) (In the middle of nowhere in the woods of West Virginia, strangers who uninvitedly knock on random doors are more likely than not to be greeted by a shotgun or two).

The poor guy was cold and desperate to sell some meat so that he could “get to his daughter’s piano recital on time”I declined politely because I am not so sure if it is safe or legal to knock on random doors and sell meat out of a vehicle. The poor man kept trying and trying to sell me the meat. He kept lowering and lowering the price (which seems a little bit shady to me). Finally when the price went down $100 or so dollars I figured the only way to get rid of this stranger was st take a box of meat. Once I agreed to buy, he asked how I wanted to pay for it and I looked at my bank account and said, “Ninety on my credit card and twenty in cash”. So the little guy runs out to his truck and gets his little credit card paper and handed it to me for signature. It was written out for $110.00. I thought, OK, no problem. I don’t like letting my bank account get too low in case I forgot to record a transaction, but I am putting $300 more into the account tomorrow and there is still $160.00 in it now, so I will let this go.”

I am an extremely busy woman. I have 4 children, all of their pets, I own my own business where I work at least 60 hours per week. I volunteer in the classroom for a half day during the week, I run a busy household, and I take care of a wonderful man. Sometimes I am too busy keeping up the laundry at 11:00 pm and finishing the dishes when I get up in the morning at 5 am, to check the home voice mail. I am inundated daily with my cell phone with messages, texts and emails from clients. I feel fortunate if I am able to check my house voice mail (where the majority of the messages are for the children) once a week.

This evening I was at my office and received a panicked phone call from one of my children at home. She was very upset and said, “This guy keeps calling over and over for you. I didn’t pick up because I didn’t recognize the number, but he called so much that I finally picked up and he said you owed him money for meat and that he was going to call the police on you!” This man had my girl so upset that she was almost in tears.

I got the number from her and returned the call. A man named Travis answered. I identified myself and said that I understood that he had a problem with me and was threatening me. I asked for the name of his supervisor and he said he WAS the supervisor. I then asked, “So then, you are the owner of this meat company?” He said, “Uh, No”. I asked again for the name of his supervisor. At this time he said, “If there is a problem I can just come pick up the meat.” (I SHOULD have agreed to that because the minute he hit my property, the police would have been called and Travis would currently be charged with harassment.) Instead I said that some of the meat had been eaten and that to pick up the meat would be just stupid. I told him that the credit card I had given the (questionable) salesman had plenty of money on it ever since the guy took the number, so there had to be some mistake on their part. Travis then asked me to repeat the number. I told Travis I would ABSOLUTELY repeat the number as soon as I got the name and phone number of his supervisor. He then told me that his supervisor is named “Sy”. I asked if “Sy” had a last name. As soon as I asked for “Sy’s” last name, Travis hung up on me. Within moments a charge went through my bank for $100.00 to Omega Meats.
