ArthritisUltrasound is applied using a transducer or applicator that is in direct contact with the patient's skin. Gel is used on all surfaces of the head to reduce friction and assist transmission of the ultrasonic waves. These waves are primarily absorbed by connective tissues, ligaments, tendons, and fascia. Conditions we most commonly treat using ultrasound are: ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint inflammation, plantarfasciitis, impingement syndrome, bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and scar tissue adhesion. There are three primary benefits to ultrasound. The first is the speeding up of the healing process from the increase in blood flow in the treated area. The second is the decrease in pain from the reduction of swelling and edema. The third is the gentle massage of muscles tendons and/ or ligaments in the treated area because no strain is added and any scar tissue is softened.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome**Disorder caused by compression at the wrist of the median nerve that supplies the hand, causing numbness and tingling. Median nerve is responsible for sensation and movement in the hand.**
IontophoresisTechnique using a small electric charge to deliver a medicine or other chemical through the skin; essentially it is an injection without a needle. We use this method to treat conditions that have a high inflammatory response/overuse injuries (plantarfasciitis, bursistis, elbow tendonitis, patellar tendonitis). Little to no pain is experienced with this procedure.
UltrasoundPhonophoresis is the use of ultrasound to enhance the delivery of topically applied drugs. Phonophoresis has been used in an effort to enhance the absorption of topically applied analgesics and anti-inflammatory agents through the therapeutic application of ultrasound.
Sciatica** Pain resulting from irritation of sciatic nerve, typically felt fro low back to behind the thigh and radiating below the knee. Usually irritated by a disc pressing on the nerve or disruption/inflammation of the nerve. **
Orthopedic Surgery**Studies show those who rehabilitate prior to a surgical intervention drastically reduce the recovery time and pain intensity following surgery thus increasing a quicker return to prior activities and function. Post surgery rehab is critical in decreasing pain, swelling, scar tissue and missed work hours while increasing range of motion and strength to allow for a speedier return to a functional lifestyle. **
Achilles TendonitisWe own the #1 rated outpatient cold laser unit in WNY. Cold laser therapy is used in the treatment of acute/chronic pain conditions through a safe, effective and painless (no side effects) manner by stimulating natural biological healing in a tissue that is either unable to recover on its own or is slow in healing. The body absorbs the light on a cellular level and converts it into chemical energy which decreases swelling/pain and increases tissue regeneration. Efficacy rates are routinely 90% or higher. Conditions which we have had the greatest success include: low back/neck pain, migraines, rotator cuff tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, achilles tendonitis/plantarfasciitis, knee pain, tennis/golfers elbow and sinus infections (sinusitus). The dual wavelength allows our laser to be able the only cold laser that is able to penetrate up to 4 inches deep.
Plantar Fasciitis**Painful foot condition caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia (thick ligamentous connective tissue that runs from the heel to ball of foot). Worst in morning or if sitting for prolong periods of time and felt usually at bottom of foot.
PsoriasisRehabilitation specialists, massage therapists, and the spa industry have endorsed paraffin wax for its therapeutic properties. Physicians have long known that paraffin therapy is a veritable way to speed healing and soothe muscle and joint pain. In fact, the healing qualities of paraffin wax therapy have been known for centuries. Paraffin therapy is quite common and widely used to aid in the treatment of conditions such as the following: Arthritis, Bursitis, Fibromyalgia, Inflammation, Muscle Spasms, Overworked/Fatigued Muscles, Psoriasis, Scar Tissue, Stiff Joints, Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow and many more.
Sports Medicine**90% of adults will experience back pain and 67% will have neck pain at some point in their life. These conditions are among the most common reasons for doctor visits and are major causes of disability/lost work days. The majority or back and neck problems do not require surgery; some are self-inflicted due to lifelong bad habits and others are because of accidents, muscle strains and sports injuries. At FCPT, we strongly urge you to have an evaluation at the first sign of symptoms. Seeking treatment early significantly reduces further injury and possible surgery. At FCPT, we specialize in the conservative treatment of the neck and back. We will provide a thorough consultation to determine the source of the problem.**
