About the Smokies

My husband and I reserved a specific cabin thru About the Smokies, checking in on a Sunday night and checking out on a Tuesday. We looked for 3 hours wanting to find the "perfect" cabin with specific amenties. We finally found what we were looking for with "Knotty by Nature." I called Friday to confirm reservations and that we had all the information we needed to check in on Sunday. (The office is closed on Sunday, so we would have to call a number to get a security code for a lock box that held the key and other important information.) To my astonishment, when I called I was told that THEY had to change our reservations because the owner of the cabin was coming in for the weekend to move their stuff out because it had been SOLD!!!! We had already paid for that specific cabin. They were in the process of putting us in another cabin without calling and asking us first. But when I questioned the CSR she said, "Oh, I was just getting ready to call you." I don't believe that for one minute, because of the shock in her voice when I told her who I was and wanting to confirm our reservation. I said NO to another cabin, we picked that cabin for specific reasons. I think this is really bad business practices when first, the owner sales the cabin, and doesn't alert About the Smokies about it. Second, that they were going to put us in another cabin without telling us and third, the owner of ANY cabin should reserve it just like any other person. This really upset me, I couldn't believe the audicity of such!!! Do your research, throughly, before making a reservation. Make sure the office is OPEN when you go pick up your keys and always confirm a day or two before your visit that you still have the cabin your reserved!!! We got our money refunded after I refused to accept one of the other cabins. Never again will I use About the Smokies and I dissuade anyone who is thinking about renting a cabin. There are way to many other companies that use better business practices than this one. They don't even rate a one in our book.

After the fact, I went to the BBB and found complaints about About the Smokies on there too. Just some advice, RESEARCH the company who you are going to be renting from!!! Lesson learned for us.
