Great orthodontist with pleasant experience

I had my first time consultation with Dr Lu today, and had a very pleasant experience. Dr. Lu was very professional and explained in details to me about my treatment plan and options. He answered all my questions very thoroughly. Great experience from the moment I checked in and been seen. Front desk, Michelle was very polite and helpful. I have already decided to start my treatment here.

Dr. Lu is very caring and very friendly. He is very good at what he does. Both my sister and I are patients of Dr. Lu and we are both very happy with him and his office. I would definitely recommend Dr. Lu to anyone who is thinking about getting straight teeth!

Crooked, crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. Cavities, gum disease, and eventual tooth loss can result. Improper jaw alignment can contribute to wearing away of tooth surfaces which can result in expensive restorations, caps, bridges, crowns. Inefficient chewing with limited function, and TMJ symptoms (popping, pain, locking of the jaw joint) can also cause chronic headaches and face or neck pain.

You should always brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least once a day. It's important that you visit your dentist every 6 months for routine dental check up and cleaning. If you wear a retainer, you need to remove your retainer when you are eating. Always remember to keep the retainer safe in its container so that it does not get lost or broken. You can keep your retainer clean by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste with cold water. You may also use denture cleaner twice a week as needed. During your treatment, try to avoid foods with a lot of sugar (sugar increases the amount of bacteria that grows in your mouth causing more plaque and possibly cavities). Avoid sticky and chewy foods (caramel, chewing gum, gummy bears), hard foods (hard candy, nuts, ice cubes. pretzels) or any foods that could possibly get stuck in your braces (corn on the cob, bagels, ribs, taffy, etc).

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from New York University, Dr. Frank Lu attended Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Besides many honors and distinctions received during his dental education, he graduated number one from his dental class in 1999, receiving the Alpha Omega award, and he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) honorary dental society. After his dental training, Dr. Lu served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corp as a dental officer and attained the rank of Lieutenant. The Navy took him to Atsugi, Japan for 3 years where he served the 7th fleet in Japan, Korea and Guam. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his outstanding military service and performance. Dr. Lu practiced general dentistry for a few years and attained the esteemed Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 2003. He was one of only 5% of American dentists that has achieved this honor by completing over 600 hours of continuing education and passing a rigorous 6 hour written examination. Dr. Lu also earned the honored Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologist (FICOI) in 2004. Dr. Lu was then offered a post-doctoral position for a 3-year advanced training in orthodontics at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where he received both a certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science (MS) degree. During his orthodontic training, he actively participated in research and was one of the selective few who completed the internationally renowned Tweed Course at the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontics.
