While there are some general guidelines (daily brushing and flossing, teeth cleanings every six months at least, and dental visits twice per year), preventive care is an individual matter.
Dental Sealants
Today, we make tooth-colored fillings from durable plastics called composite resins. They look similar in color and texture to natural teeth, the fillings look similar to the surrounding enamel and much more attractive, than other types of fillings. You can smile, talk, and eat with confidence. Besides, tooth-colored fillings are compatible with dental sealants, allowing us to both fill and seal a tooth at the same time to prevent any further decay.

For example, the old silver amalgam fillings contained mercury, one of the most toxic substances in nature. You may have silver amalgam fillings in your mouth now. Over time, these compounds can release toxic substances that can damage your overall health.
Resin Composite

Bridges

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
Red, swollen gums are a red flag for one thing: gum disease. If you have the symptoms, you're not alone. More than 80% of adults have some form of gum disease. Fortunately, there are many effective and pain-free gum disease treatments. For gingivitis, the mildest form of gum disease, treatment typically involves a thorough dental cleaning, followed by daily brushing and flossing. Advanced gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, requires scaling and root planing to remove stubborn deposits below the gum line. Laser gum surgery, a new alternative to scaling and root planing, uses beams of high-speed light to remove plaque and tartar buildup. If non-surgical methods of gum disease treatment are ineffective, a gingivectomy, or periodontal surgery, may be necessary.
Periodontal Surgery
When it comes to the health of your teeth and gums, preventive dental care is smart. Brushing and flossing help to remove plaque from the surfaces and in between teeth, keeping your teeth looking and feeling clean. A healthy diet, one low in sugar and other refined carbohydrates, helps keep your whole body, including your teeth and gums, in good shape. And routine dental exams and regular cleanings may help prevent the incidence of higher-cost treatments such as periodontal surgery, root canals, extractions and fillings. After all, early detection and prevention are keys to minimizing your need for more serious dental treatment.
