General Info

Recently opened for summer use and ranked by MPR among "Minnesota's Best Lodges" and by PBS among "America's Best Adventure Lodges," Wintergreen Lodge is abuzz with dogsledding fun from December through March. But from the last week of June to the end of September, it's your unique private get-away. Located on a pine-studded point of lovely White Iron Lake (no nearby public roads or neighboring cabins--none even visible!), Our lakefront solar lodge accommodates groups of up to 12 with it's 6 bedrooms (five with lake views), 4 full baths plus half bath, two fully equipped kitchens, dining area, downstairs living room with fireplace and lounge areas and an upstairs living room with a large flat screen monitor for movies. Enjoy outdoor grilling on the upper deck overlooking the lake. Our boat dock and sunset-facing sandy swimming beach are just outside the door and our Finnish wood-fired sauna and campfire circle area are nearby. Enjoy water sports and miles of scenic nature trails in the Wintergreen woods. Canoes and kayaks are available for your use at no charge. Pontoons and fishing boat rentals are available for weekly rentals and minimum 3 days. White Iron ranks among our region's favorite fishing lakes among locals and visitors alike (and that says a lot because we've got 2,000 lakes within 50 miles of Ely!) It's famous for walleyes, northerns & unusually big crappies. And you'll of course want to visit the Wintergreen sled dog kennel (it's way off in the woods, out of sight & earshot of the lodge) where you'll meet our friendly, handsome Canadian Inuit dogs and play with our adorable puppies. We're located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness -- our nation's most popular and beloved Lakeland reserve -- & we can help you arrange a day trip there on your own or with one of the area guide services and their superlight Kevlar canoes. And our town is home to two world-class, must-see wildlife exhibits: the International Wolf Center and the North American Bear Center. National Geographic ranks our region among the nation's top vacation spots and CBS journalist Charles Kuralt said its his favorite place on the planet!
