The pictures above are from my review on google. Visit my review there. I DO NOT recommend this kennel. I gave them 1 star for not starving them.
Absolutely terrific. Some of the reviews shock me. My dogs always leave happy. They wash the bedding you bring your dog after every stay. It's a dog kennel, things may get ruined, but they are upfront about it. The report cards are also adorable. You only get them if your stay is longer than a certain period of time though.
Just incredible. I love leaving my pets here because I know they love going. I will continue to use ABK time and time again.
My beloved dog who passed away 1 yr ago stayed many times at Amherst boarding kennel. She had MANY medical problems and the staff was always wonderful with her despite all of her medical issues and multiple daily medications. My current dog, Lilly has also stayed many times at Amherst Boarding Kennel and usually does not want to come home! Lilly is very active and LOUD, but the staff always welcomes her. \r The negative reviews are shocking to me considering that I have never had any problems and cannot say enough good things about Amherst Boarding Kennel!
The best place to take your dog or cat! I have no worries when I leave them with the staff, I love this place
My dogs were the first boarded at ABK & I have always found them to be nothing but kind, caring professionals. A kennel is not like being at home but my dogs love the people that work there & I am so grateful to have a place like ABK to take them.
ABK was a huge lifesaver for me when I first moved to Buffalo about 4 years ago. The staff seemed friendly and were very kind towards my dog.\r \r I recently boarded my little 20lb. dog and my boyfriend's 60 lb. black lab for a long weekend. We brought food and their dog beds. When we came to pick them up the beds were nowhere to be found. It was immediately our fault for not labeling the beds, but it felt sort of counterproductive because the beds should have been kept in their kennel and then put with their food.\r \r They said they were doing laundry but we didn't ask for the beds to be washed. I also found two bones that did not belong to us in the bag with all the food.\r \r I had asked that both dogs nails be groomed while they stayed and neither had the service done which we had to check so we could remind them not to charge us for the service. They were going to charge anyway.\r \r I've been calling every other day or so to check on the status of the beds (not that they are so valuable but they are far more comfortable than hard wood floors at home all week).\r \r ABK has VERY reasonable pricing, but they laid all the blame on us. I said they could have asked if we had labeled all our property while checking in. We didn ot ask for laundry to be done, it is nice they were going to clean the beds, but they caused the confusion. And they don't seem to care at all and told me that they were sorry they didn't ""live up to my standards"".\r \r I'm not even sure the dogs used their beds the whole time they were at the kennel...if they had any idea who had brought them in the first place. And what client went ahead and took two dog beds home with them that clearly weren't theirs....and isn't like the labs bed is all wrapped up, ITS HUGE!\r \r So I canceled our future reservations and they said ""sometimes things get lost"" and I say ""sometimes you lose customers"".\r \r Find somewhere where they do what they say they will do or at least offer you something in return for a mishap.
I very rarely leave my 2 golden retrievers at a kennel, but when I did, I always felt confident about leaving them at Amherst Boarding Kennel up until this last time. My dogs were there for two nights. What I discovered when I picked them up was that my 11 year old male golden had urine along his left flank, belly and chest. There was not mention of any issues in the ""report card"" and I called when I got home. I was transferred to the kennel staff who said that actually both dogs had been bathed that morning as they had had ""accidents"".overnight. This was so unusual- I was astonished. When I pushed, asking what time they were let out, I was told the morning staff lets them out at 7:30 am. When I asked about the dog doors tthat the website states they have access to for the outside- I was told they close the dog doors at 7:30- meaning minimally- if your dog is the last dog to have the dog door closed and the first dog let out- They are without access to the outside to urinate etc. for 12 HOURS MINIMUM. So, the dogs (both are in same kennel) urinate on the floor and have to sleep in that same kennel all night. The website states: Doggie doors make easy access for your pet to enjoy the outdoors in large runs that are covered to protect them from the elements. When I took the tour, no mention was made of the dog door only being accessible for only 12 hours. They stated they have access to it ""all day"" when I initially asked. No one volunteered that for 12 hours it is shut. When I expressed my dismay over this, I was told ""It's not our choice, no one wants to hear dogs barking. Blame the town of Amherst"". The website also boasts of a treat before they are tucked into bed, insinuating a nice treat around the normal ""bedtime"" which I think most people would peg at around 9pm or later. Not too many families let the dog out for the last time at 7:30 (or earlier if your dog hadn't gone out through the dog door in a while - I'm sure all the dogs aren't encouraged to go out prior to the locking of the kennel dog door and/or if your dog is one of the first dogs who has their door locked). I think it is interesting that I wasn't told they gave the dogs a bath- It appears that more often then not, dogs must end up being in their own urine. When I stated this, I was told ""no, usually there's just a puddle that get hosed down- they may have walked in it, but usually don't lay in it. Unfortunately I will need to find another kennel for my infrequent need.
My family dog used to go to both daycare and boarding at Amherst Boarding Kennel. Their prices are quite good, but we found that our dog did not get as much playtime as at some other daycares we used. While we felt our dog was treated well, I found the staff at ABK to be very rude on a number of occasions. They are very abrupt when you interact with them and quite inflexible. The kicker for me was when they lost my deposit for a boarding stay and assumed I was trying to con them out of money. (My family has never missed a payment to them.) When I produced the deposit receipt, they accepted that I had paid but did not apologize for their mistake. I felt like my business did not matter to them, so I took it elsewhere.\r \r We now use CAMP BOW WOW, which opened in August 2008 in Tonawanda, NY - . They treat my dog wonderfully, treat me wonderfully, and my dog is always tired when she comes home. I would recommend Camp Bow Wow to anyone looking for a new alternative to their current doggie daycare or boarding routine.\r
My one year old dog is very familiar with daycare as I have been taking him periodically to Luv Your Dog Inc. since this past winter after we completed a basic obedience course there. Daycare helped rid him of his shy and nervous tendencies and he is confident in all situations now. I was looking for a more affordable option than Luv Yor Dog Inc. (8am to 6pm is $25.01) since I'll be out of town for over a week next month... I didn't want to board him so my mother agreed to watch him in the evenings and while at work leave him in daycare. So I found Amherst Boarding Kennel while searching online and decided to give it a try before actually leaving town...\r I was very impressed with the facility. It is very well maintained and operated. I know that it will take my dog a few more visits for him to really feel comfortable there, but he seemed satisfied and that's all that really matters to me. Plus the price is more than reasonable and I trust that my dog was safe while in their hands.\r I highly recommend taking a tour or just dropping your dog off for a half day to figure out if it's really right for you. It's perfect for me and my dog and I know that while out of town my mind will be at ease. I'm looking forward to my dog becoming a regular and bonding with the staff as he did at the previous daycare center.
