Sherwood Githens Middle School serves students in grades six through eight. It offers a range of general academic courses in various subjects, such as math, science, social studies and language arts. The school also offers a variety of electives, including fine and applied arts and physical education. Its staff includes teachers, specialists, counselors, technology facilitators, nurses, custodians, teaching assistants and social workers. In addition, it offers a variety of extracurricular programs in band, strings, keyboarding, chorus and orchestra. The school provides foreign language sessions in Spanish and French. It also provides medical care, speech pathology, and guidance and counseling services to its students. Sherwood Githens Middle School has a parent-teacher association that conducts several fundraising events and activities. It offers a variety of sports activities, such as soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, wrestling and tennis. It also operates various student organizations, including the National Junior Honor Society, a student government and environmental club. The school is located in Durham, N.C.
