He received his Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University in 2004 and graduated with honors from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 2008. After nearly five years in private practice in southern Illinois, Dr. Smith joined a group ophthalmology practice providing pre-and post-operative surgical care across the St. Louis Metro East and instituted low vision services for patients with advanced visual impairments.
