I have eaten at Noah's over 20 times. I love Italian food and I am married to a true Italian princess. Why have I eaten at Noah's so many times if I do not like it there? Simple, my boss is friends with Jim, Noah's son and he bring us all there every once and a while. I am hardly able to choke down the raviolis or spaghetti as it is worse than what I would expect to find in a can. The deserts are great....they should be since they are boxed and come from elsewhere. The story about the glass shards being in that old mans bread is absolutely true. Noah was furious about it and instructed his staff that if they discussed it with anyone they would be fired. Here is a funny story, the last time we were there my boss asked me why I always order the salad and a beer and when I told him my opinion of the food he laughed and laughed. He informed me that he didn't like it either, he thought it was just him. So now we are looking for new restaurants in Des Moines to try out, but it certainly will not be Noah's Ark again.
I must consistently go on a different night from the complalners. I was a regular at Noah's until we moved, then have come back several times since. Never had a problem with service or with the food.\r \r I will say that, since Noah really isn't in charge anymore (as said, he's no longer young), the management is going downhill, something for which I would certainly call Jim on the carpet. \r \r Attitudes have changed since the fire. I wish they would snap out of it. \r \r As for the old bird who mentioned Noah's behaviour with someone else, I suggest keeping her own garden clean, and if it is upsetting to her, please stay out of Noah's. \r \r (I would have liked to give a 4 1/2, so leaned on the positive side of that final star. Citysearch could create better options.)\r \r \r \r
So, if you enjoy waiting forever to get served by waitresses who look and dress like meth addicts and hang around in the back and on the roof smoking and goofing around....\r \r If you like to get hair and other nasty items in the food when you finally get it....\r \r If you like eating somewhere that was shut down for two weeks because of extreme uncleanliness which resulted in an outbreak of hepatitus.....\r \r If you enjoy all that you will just LOVE Noah's Ark Ristorante!
I happen to know ""weasel1"" (the 5 star reviewer) is actualy Noah Lacona's SON Jim who spends all his time either golfing or yelling at the waitresses.\r \r Noah is 80+ years old, he no longer gives any bonuses, paid holiday time, if you need maternity time your fired, he is OPENLY ra cist and will not hire you or will fire you if you are:\r 1. To tall\r 2. Black (Mexicans are okay only in the kitchen)\r 3. To fat, etc.\r We have one worker there who he thinks is too old and he is so mean to her, he tells everyone he is trying to make her quit. I used to work there and I quit because of hostile working conditions & sexual harrasment. One of the little jokes he likes to do is block the younger waitresses in the hallways or stairs and demand a kiss or they can not get through.. ooohhh this made me so mad! How does this affect the food at Noah's? angry staff and cooks under cook the food, drop it on the floor and put it back on the plates, smash the roa ches and throw them at each other jokingly, do not wash hands after bringing garbage out to the cans, etc. There are many die hard lovers of Noah's and thats because of the nostalgia, the name, the reputation, etc.... Noah's Ark is not now what it used to be. It has gone downhill. next time you go, look carefully, he hires people who are in and out of jail, have jail tattoos all over, staple the hems on their 1950s style dresses, etc. The condtions are filthy and dangerous. \r \r IMPORTANT: Last year an older gentlemen with an air tank and his wife were eating there and he suddenly started coughing up blo od, it was like a horror movie, blo od all over the table. turns out there was glass in the bread and it was lodged in his throat, what was Noahs executive decision? he ordered the manager to throw all the bread away and discard the glass that the man had coughed up. real nice. don't belive me? just ask some of the staff there.\r \r
I have been coming to Noahs Ark for 40 some years and what i saw shocked me to the point that i will never return and i have also passed on to others what i witnessed. I believe it was in the month of april or first part of may,a friend of mine from Texas came to visit and i wanted her to experiance dinning at Noah Laconas restaurant. While we ate i told her the story of Noah and Sally and their history of the restaurant. About half way through our meal I saw Noah enter the dinning room with another women named Louis who owns whyle eye care. My friend asked if that was his wife because of their actions. Their actions is why i will never return, they were all over each other in such an unappropriate manner...kissing hugging, touching. They ate together and this continued on as we left ....i wonder what his wife sally would think.
The food is excellent!! Even on the busy nights, the food is worth the wait! It's refreshing to be in a relaxing setting and not rushed so you have time to eat and enjoy yourself. The prices are great for fine dinning! I will always keep Noah's in mind for exceptional food and atmosphere!!
The other reviewer from March 2006 is bogus, as the restaurant was not even open in March. There was a fire in January, and they are only now reopening. This is a wonderful family restaurant, with moderate prices and consistently good food and service.
Great Des Moines staple, good food, cozy, very Sopranos like
