PERTUSSIS (aP), also known as "whooping cough," can cause uncontrollable, violent coughing which makes it hard to breathe, eat, or drink. Pertussis can be extremely serious in babies and young children, causing pneumonia, convulsions, brain damage, or death. In teens and adults, it can cause weight loss, loss of bladder control, passing out, and rib fractures from severe coughing.

Primary Care
Continuity of Care is an important goal in providing medical care, and we are taking steps toward improving our commitment to our patients. We are encouraging everyone to designate one of our doctors as their primary care physician (PCP). Whenever possible, appointments will be made with the primary care physician, particularly for healthy checkups and follow-up visits for chronic conditions. Sick visits will still be scheduled the same day with the doctor that is available. If your PCP is unavailable, you will be offered an appointment with another provider. We believe that continuity of care will improve the quality of care that your child receives.
Ear Infections
Pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections and ear infections are examples of flu-related complications. If you have a medical condition, such as heart disease, cancer or diabetes, flu can make it worse.
Emergency Care
Life happens! Sometimes illness and accidents occur after hours. Our on-call physicians or nurses are available overnight and on weekends and holidays to provide you with advice. Please call our answering service (716) 827-1684, so we can help you decide if you need to take your child to the Emergency Room or provide you with advice to get you through the night. When the offices are closed the main office number will direct you to our answering service. If your call has not been returned within one half hour, please call the answering service again and ask to have the page to the doctor repeated. If this is a true emergency dial 911.

The majority of parents choose to vaccinate their children according to the standard doctor-recommend schedule; however, many parents still have questions about vaccination. If you are wondering whether vaccinating your child is safe, the answer is yes: the United States currently has the safest vaccine supply in history and millions of children safely receive their vaccines every year. A vaccine can prevent infections and diseases that would once kill or cause lasting harm to infants, children, and adults. An unvaccinated child is at risk for contracting diseases such as whooping cough and measles, which can cause severe illness, pain, disability, and even death. A vaccine uses extremely small amounts of antigens to help your child’s immune system learn to recognize and fight serious diseases. Antigens are parts of germs that activate the immune system.
