Catamount Peak Apartments

The other guy was right. I lived here for three years. Every year they tried raising my rates. I had a single bedroom for around $660/month + $20-$30/month in "power overages". I took really good care of my place. When I went to move out they tried to charge me for blinds (which were never there since I lived in there), carpet (had burns in the carpet from the previous owner), the door (which was kicked in from the previous owner), and the stove being dirty ($300 in total for wear and tear). I could not believe it. I officially hate this place. What originally drew me to the Peaks was the view, the security, the convenience, the quality of the rooms, and it was cheaper than living on campus. The view was awesome! I loved waking up and seeing the mountains! The "cop" they rent is basically useless. He is never there and when he is here he sleeps at the bottom of the hill. The alarm in the apartments do not really do anything (it just makes noise) no one will every respond if your apartment got broke into. Walking to campus could get you killed if you walked from the Peaks. Speedwell road is a really really really DANGEROUS road to walk/bike/run. Maintenance is slow as Christmas. When I first moved into my apartment I noticed the door jam was busted (you could push the door open with it locked). It took 6 months of me constantly putting in maintenance request to get my door fixed (when I say fixed I mean the maintenance guy used epoxy to glue the door jam back together then white spray paint to make it match). If you don't believe it then go to 331 1L and check it out. I'm sure it is still like that. I put in for new carpet every year because the carpet in my apartment was stained up and covered in burn marks (it never happen). Put in for blinds several times (it never happen). Management changes every year. The staff always is changing constantly. The pool is generally closed in the summer. The Peaks is all about one thing. Money. You are literally just another person who owes rent to them. They do not give a crap about you or anything thing that concerns you. They are about one thing. Money. If I had it to do over again I sure as heck would never stay at the Catamount Peak Apartments. There are several nice houses that around the same price (or cheaper) that I would rent (just look around). And to that business response.... BS! You really do not have any clue what the exact amount of overages is due until about a month after rent is due. The Peaks slogan should be " The Peaks... built on lies and majors in greed". They just tell you whatever you want to hear so they can get you to sign on the dotted line. I just wish people were more honest. Everyone I have talk to that has lived at the Peaks has been down the same way. I wish more people would write about it to warn others. I’m an idiot for staying here as long as I did. There are so many more things I’m leaving out but I think the picture is painted. DO NOT STAY HERE. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

When you sign your contract you think that "everything included in rent" means everything. But one month into your lease bills start arriving for $45 "maintence Fee" and other similar fees start arriving. Making your $400 rent into $550. I would not recommend living here to anyone. If your trying to live in a safe place at a reasonable price look somewhere else. This place rents a cop who drives through once a night and you never know how much you'll pay in rent.
