My mom went here for a one wee...

If your loved one has dietary restrictions and/or dementia, think twice before enrolling them in their Adult Day Health Program. My mom went here for a one week trial in their medical model adult day health program. She has short-term memory loss dementia, poor vision, hypertension and spinal stenosis. They assured me they would take care of her despite her problems. During the hour long assessment the week prior, she was accepted for the trial program. Upon a second day visit to the facility during her trial week I witnessed dietary errors, (salt laden and fatty foods on her plate, even after her requirements were discussed in detail and verified by her physician), inconsistencies in what the nurses said (and did) about administering her meds and supplements, lack of communication and poor judgment of mom's needs. At one point mom was put in a room with developmentally disabled persons, catatonic patients and severe Alzheimer's patients, and she looked very unhappy. I did not feel that was the proper environment for her to be in as she is very responsive and speaks when spoken to. She was labeled as a wandering person when on the first day she wanted to know where the bathroom was! A cumbersome wander-guard was subsequently put on her back, which she expressed to me was very uncomfortable and annoying. There was resentment by the staff for me being mom's advocate and speaking up for her when she didn't understand or could not remember what they did. Mom came home sad and depressed most days. I felt most of the staff was lacking in compassion for both the client and their family.
