Went to Jack's deli this morning for breakfast with my teenage daughter. It was not really busy : Waitress kept complaining about how sick of Christmas she was and that she didn't like anything this morning or anybody !! Food and coffee were lukewarm when delivered. Upon leaving- my daughter paid check at cashier's station ( we were the only two people in the area and were talking to each other ) while I ordered some bagels at the deli counter. I went to pay for the bagels and the cashier aksed where my check was - when she saw I had a box of leftovers - to which I replied " My daughter just paid you !! ", No apology just an "OH". If she hadn't been so busy chatting to other employees, she might have noticed. The bus boy returned the newspaper, we had borrowed to read , to me at the cahier's desk and said " That was yours - you should have returned it to the cashier". I got reprimanded for reading a paper that was left at the booth we sat in !! Oh , yes and I ordered soup and the gentleman at the deli counter had to tell the same rude waitress twice to get the soup , because she was to lazy to go in the kitchen !! I will not be back- there are plenty of other breakfast places with better & warmer food and friendlier service , for a more reasonable price ! For what one pays in there for breakfast ( $7 to $8.00 for a full breakfast )- it would be nice if the staff were cordial or at least kept their mouths shut and if the food could at least be hot !! They do have good chicken soup-- but only take-out for me , from now on !!!
1/9/09 I've been coming to Jack's Deli for many years and always recommended Jacki's as the best New York style deli place in Cleveland, but times have changed. So has the quqality of the food and the slow and rude service. Was there Friday night. Newly arrived guests receive their plate of pickles--where's mine? ""Hey, man I'll get it!"" was the response I got from one of the non-servers. Order what I thought was a simple selection -- 1/2 sandwich (corner beef) and a bowl of matzo ball. I waited and I waited and I wait. The soup finally arrived. The waitress had asked, ""Do want a cup or a bowl."" A bowl. NO EXPLANATION WAS MADE BY THE WAITRESS REGARDING A PRICE DIFFERENTIAL. The 1/2 sandwich finally arrived long after I had finished my soup. It would have been nice to have both of them together. The bill arrived with an extra charge of $1.50 for ""open deli."" I went to the cashier and was told the extra $1.50 is for a bowl of soup. The waitress was called over and proceeded to argue with me. The manager was called and politely took the $1.50 off my bill and apologized for the mistake of the waitress. As I was leaving I heard the waitress and cashier cattily dishing me for bring this to their attention. According to the papers there is a recession on -- many people are avoiding resaturants altogether. The folks at Jack's need to wise-up!\r Mr. Marmelstein\r South Euclid
very good deli
Jack's has been around for a long time. They have great, fresh sandwiches. My favorites are the corned beef, turkey and roast beef. It's also a nice place to stop for a cheap breakfast.
I went to Jack's a half a year ago, and I still remember it today. They have great french toast, which I had for a late breakfast, while my girlfriend was eating a perfect matzoh ball soup. Decor feels like an upscale diner, with a lot of wood and stainless steel accents. I look forward to eating here next time I visit Cleveland!
Although I am Catholic, I love Jewish food. Jacks is by far the best sandwich, knish, and pea soup in the area. On top of that, the staff is especially friendly and helpful, something that is not common in neighboring delis. The decorations havent been changed since probably the '70s but that just creates a cozy atmostphere. I highly recomend the Clevlander on Challah!
A great and inexpensive place to have a family style breakfast, Take your kids, they treat them nicely. The waiters and bus boys are so friendly! Foos is great.
