        JCSGold has evolved over the last 50 years from its humble origins as Jefferson Coin Shop. In 1962, Mac Luck started the shop in downtown Charlottesville for his retiring father, J. Malcolm Luck. Malcolm Luck retired from the University of Virginia where he was Director of Alumni for many years. Jefferson Coin Shop was a father and son hobby built around a love of coin collecting. The shop catered to young & old collectors ranging from novices to advanced numismatists.In 1979 Jim Luck became involved in the business after attending many coin shows with his father, Mac Luck. Still as a father & son venture, moving down a generation, the shop started to transform from a hobby into a full-fledged business operation.Silver and Gold prices started moving up in 1979. Jefferson Coin Shop started buying Gold & Silver bullion, Coins, Scrap Gold Jewelry and Sterling Silver. As the infamous Hunt Brothers made their attempt to corner the world silver markets, prices soared and business was very brisk. Yes, we were around in 1980 when Silver was $50 and Gold over $800! In todays dollars, that works out to Silver at $132 and Gold at a staggering $2275!Jefferson Coin Shop made its first move in the mid 1980s. The move was certainly more symbolic than anything else it was a whopping 25 feet across the foyer of our office building! In our new larger office, we continued to buy coin collections and precious metals. Jim persevered in increasing sales and expanded Jefferson Coin Shops reach by attending coin shows up and down the East Coast.In the 1990s the torch was passed to Jim Luck and his wife, Kara. Mac Luck passed away in 1997 never realizing how the internet and the falling Dollar would affect the small business he started in 1962 as a hobby to share with his father and his son.Still providing collectible coins and investments, in 2005 Jefferson Coin Shop opened new headquarters on the other side of Charlottesville, on Route 29 North. Jim & Karas three sons are involved in the business as well, making for a rich family history that now spans four generations. Their son James has opened his own shop, Americas Gold Trader, in Salem, Virginia. Lloyd and Chris work in the office during the summer months when theyre home from school.2012 marked our 50th anniversary. We feel as though were just now reaching our full stride, and are committed to taking our love of the business, our expertise and our great local reputation to the next level. This can be seen in two small changes were making. First, were dropping the word Shop locally, becoming known simply as Jefferson Coin. Next, were going national with our completely rebuilt website. As part of that move, weve rebranded our internet division as JCSGold. At the heart of this new brand is the JCS for Jefferson Coin Shop, just as the small father & son hobby shop started in 1962 will always be at the heart of everything we do.In the Summer of 2014, we made a big moveliterally. After several months of renovation, we relocated our headquarters just 5 minutes South on Route 29 in Charlottesville. This move marks a massive step forward for us. Were more centrally located and have lots more room to bring you more of everything youve already come to expect from us over the course of our last 50+ years in business.Locally, Jefferson Coin is known as the place to sell your gold, silver and coins. As the Dollar plummets and the world at large falls deeper into debt, more people are waking up to the real value of Gold & Silver. JCSGold is here to lend a hand to those who are new to precious metals as well as to share our passion and our collection with seasoned veterans.

        My 12 year old started collecting coins about 2 years ago thanks to a friend of ours. We have been in shops from Md to Fla and are thankful the JCS is our "neighborhood store." The friend that got him started told us to visit Jim and his family...we couldn't be happier. Not only are they straight forward and easy to deal with, they always take time with my son to answer his questions, explain things to him, and let him go through the cull coins to help fill his books. There are always people in the shop but the Lucks always take a moment to see how we are doing and if we want to look at something else. In a time when its hard enough to keep kids interested in anything that not electronic or gets them in trouble, Jim and family make it easy for him to stay interested and continue to work hard in school so he earns the trips to their shop. Thank you Luck Family!

        Mr. and Mrs, Luck Luck are well known and respected throughout Charlottesville, and beyond. The customer return rate says much about JCS.

        I am a collector who travels from Winchester to Staunton stopping at dealerships enroute. The mentioning of, Luck, even elevates moods of his competition.



        I deal with Luck often on a daily basis, and recommend others who are concerned they receive the absolute best prices during the process of exchanging their unwanted bullion items for cash, no one in the area can compete. He is equally atop coin values, often dealing at wholesale price and the majority of my collection was purchased from Jefferson Coin Shop, at the corner of 29 and Airport Road.

        Great Service

        I went at 10 in the morning and found there to be about 4 other people in the shop. I was expecting a wait, but when I walked in Mrs. Luck greeted me immediately and said they would be with me in a minute. Only about 5 minutes later I was being helped, and Mr. and Mrs. Luck were very friendly. I greatly enjoyed my experience, and they paid the highest price out of anyone I could find. I highly recommend it.

        O, and they have the cutest little dog :)
