Jiffy Lube Multicare

I was in a hurry to get an oil change yesterday so I went to the Centreville Jiffy Lube as I had a few free minutes away from work. Even though I had a bad experience with the Gainesville Jiffy Lube a few years back, I was in a hurry and figured I would give this one a shot. Big mistake.



The staff in general has been friendly. However, when Dave (Service Manager?) called me out to show me a few services I needed and an item that was wrong with my car I had a bad feeling the same thing was going to happen that did at the Gainesville location.. I felt like I was experiencing deja vu, as Dave shows me my air filter and that he recommended that I replace it because it is dirty. The air filter was changed back in July at my last oil change, and while it did have some minor discoloration it was nowhere in need of being replaced. I said "come on Dave, that's not that dirty." I then said "If that was your car, would you change that filter?" He said "I've seen dirtier ones." He never even answered me when I asked him if he would change it in his car.



Oddly enough, this is the exact same thing my wife went through at the Gainesville location a few years ago. At first I thought they were just trying to take advantage of my wife because she knew nothing about automotive maintenance, but now I see it is standard practice amongst all Jiffy Lubes



I reached out to the Centreville store management team, and they essentially said that since "Dave did not tell you specifically it needs to be changed, he may have been getting your opinion of whether it was necessary or not?"



Really? Come on. Dave is supposed to be the expect. Not me. I'm just not stupid, and I know an air filter does not need to be changed when it has some discoloration. And he absolutely did recommend that I replace it, as it specifically states on my receipt "recommended replacement."



I'm in the process of writing reviews online to multiple sites to make sure people are aware of the underhanded sales tactics that Jiffy Lube uses. I will no longer be interacting with the Centreville store management and will be dealing with their corporate office directly.
