Amy Schoening PA-C, MPAS is a certified Physician Assistant practicing in dermatology for the last 16 years. She is board certified by the NCCPA since 2002, previously working in primary care.
Family Practice
Melanie graduated from the University of Kentucky’s Physician Assistant program in 1995 and worked in Psychiatry and Family Medicine until relocating to North Carolina in 2002. She later received her Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. After four years working as an Epilepsy specialist in the Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, she began training in the field of Dermatology. She was activated for Desert Storm and served in Colorado as a pharmacy technician. After graduating from UNR, she continued her education and received her nursing degree from Truckee Meadows Community College. As a Registered Nurse, she worked at Washoe Medical Center on the neurology unit and the main operating room. Amy received her Master’s degree from Finch University of Health Science/Chicago Medical School and then moved back to Reno, where she has enjoyed living.

Mohs surgery is a specialized treatment for skin cancers developed by Dr. Frederick Mohs, a general surgeon, in the 1930s. It proved to give a high cure rate for difficult skin cancers and was later adopted and refined primarily by dermatologists who treat the majority of skin cancers in modern medicine.
