Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disorder or disease, most associated with damage of the optic nerve. It is often attributed to extreme internal eye pressure (intraocular pressure or IOP).
Ophthalmology
Dr. Savannah Baril is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist (Eye Physician and Surgeon) with additional fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery. Macular Degeneration
Doctors use the Amsler grid as yet another tool to aid in the detection and diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration and other eye problems. It can reveal vision problems that result from damage to the macula, which is the central part of the retina or the optic nerve.
Laser Eye Surgery
The excimer laser is a computer-driven ultraviolet beam of light that reshapes the surface of the cornea to improve the way light is focused (refracted) by the eye, thereby reducing or eliminating a variety or refractive errors. One of the most exciting procedures we perform is called LASIK. A thin layer of the cornea is folded back and then replaced after the laser treatment is completed. Healing is rapid with minimal discomfort. We were one of the first centers in the country to begin offering laser vision correction after it was approved by the FDA in 1995. The excimer laser is now routinely used around the world to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Cataracts
Cataracts are clouding of all or part of the lens of your eye. The lens is normally clear. When cataracts form, the lens becomes cloudy and leads to blurred or distorted vision. This can also cause the perceived colors you see to change. White can see more yellowish. Cataracts can be found in younger people but cataracts are most often found in people over age 55.

Botox
Used in a procedure called Cosmetic Denervation. This procedure focuses on eliminating dynamic wrinkles, such as worry, frown and laugh lines, as well as crow’s feet. Using a tiny micro-needle, a minimal amount of Botox is injected into locations on the face, blocking nerve impulses to the tiny facial muscles which cause expression lines. The muscles relax and the wrinkles clear. Botox® injections have been used safely for over ten years.
Brow Lift
For drooping eyelids, an eyebrow lift, also known as a forehead lift, may be called for. This can be done directly above the eyebrows, within the forehead creases, or by approaching the brows from the hairline or just behind the hairline as a coronal brow lift or endoscopic brow lift.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery, is usually an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, with sedation if desired. During surgery, incisions are made in the natural folds of the eyelid so that they are virtually unnoticeable after the tissues have healed. After the excess tissue is removed, the incisions are closed with fine sutures. If only fatty tissue needs to be removed from the lower eyelids and not any skin, the surgery can be performed behind the eyelid. This is known as “transconjunctival blepharoplasty” and leaves no visible scar.

The energy beam heats and vaporizes the effected tissue instantaneously, gently removing the damaged outer layers. Fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed, deep creases and frown lines softened, and acne scars can be minimized. These lasers can also be used to treat a myriad of other skin conditions.

Dermabrasion
Laser skin resurfacing, most commonly performed with Erbium or Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers, is dramatically different from traditional cosmetic treatments, such as dermabrasion or chemical peels, because it is extremely gentle and effective. Other treatments promise patients younger looking skin, yet too often these harsh methods have adverse side effects, such as scarring or pigmentation. These harsh treatments can damage the delicate skin they intended to beautify.
