Bridgeport Hospital Federal Credit Union was originally chartered in 1955 to serve the financial needs of the employees of Bridgeport Hospital. The credit union s membership has expanded to serve eight additional groups, the majority of which are in the health care network. Unlike banks and finance companies, which need to generate a profit to satisfy stockholders, credit unions are nonprofit financial cooperatives operating solely to serve the financial needs of their member-owners. Excess profits are returned to the membership through new and improved services; dividends paid on savings; and reduced loan interest. Its services include checking, savings and certificate accounts; and mortgage, personal, debt consolidation, auto and home equity loans. Bridgeport Hospital Federal Credit Union is located in Bridgeport, Conn.
