Purple Onion Deli & Grill

This is one of my absolute favorite places to go in the Birmingham area. In my experience, this location (southside, near 5pts) is by far the best one. The staff is friendly, clean, and helpful.

LOVE their gyros, sides, and that *amazing* mint tea. The burgers are among the best, and all of the meals I have tried were good and filling sizes (no meager portions that will leave you wanting more. They also stay open super late (I think they may be open 24 hours?).

The baklava is a bit less crispy than I prefer, but everything else that I have had on their menu has always been fantastic.

I would give it a 4 and 1/2 if that were an option (only missing out on the 5 because of the mediocre baklava and the 'only okay' condition of the bathrooms). But as far as the food itself, I have only had good experiences (and I have gone here regularly for at least 8+ years). This place was a staple for nearly every b'ham trip I made long before I moved to the area. Everyone I have brought here has left with a new favorite place to eat.

The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality. You can see the food prep area (which I really like being privy to). There is a covered patio dining area for the smokers, as well as inside dining. It's my absolute "go-to" for the post-bar night/late night out, etc.

I honestly made a profile on this site *just* to post a review for this place, and for me to do that is really saying something.
