Hobbs Dentistry

Dental Examination
Studies show that most adults will have some form of periodontal disease as they mature. At Hobbs Dentistry we recommend that our patients see us every 3-6 months for a complete dental examination to monitor their oral health and help prevent periodontal disease.
X-rays
Digital dental x-rays of the teeth and jaw bone give Dr. Hobbs the ability to study the areas between the teeth and underneath the gums that are not accessible in a visual exam. Dr. Hobbs and our dental hygienists use dental x-rays and diagnostic imaging tools to detect problems such as bone loss, tooth eruption and orthodontic concerns, abscesses or decay.
Oral Cancer Screening
The goal of an oral cancer screening is to look for suspicious signs and symptoms that may be related to oral cancer. During your dental examination, Dr. Hobbs will visually check the oral soft tissues, tongue and inside of the cheeks to look for unusual areas that should be evaluated further. She will also feel the sides of the neck and lymph nodes to check for lumps or swelling.

Teeth Cleaning
Your mouth works hard for you every day, fighting off harmful bacteria and supporting your ability to speak, chew and digest food properly. Like a car, it also requires regular maintenance. At home, a daily routine of brushing and flossing helps to avoid build-up of food particles and dental plaque. We also recommend that you visit our office regularly for examinations and routine dental cleanings.
Fluoride Treatment
We love helping kids smile! We firmly believe that children should always enjoy their dental visits. Establishing a good relationship with a dentist early can make a big difference in your child's dental health as they grow up. Dr. Hobbs and our dental team will create a fun learning experience for your child as they ‘count teeth’ and make the teeth ‘shiny’. We routinely provide dental fluoride treatments and place dental sealants to help prevent tooth decay in young teeth.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of permanent teeth to seal tiny grooves, pits and shallow indentations in the enamel. Sealing the tooth helps to prevent bacteria from penetrating into areas where the tooth brush is unable to reach. The smooth, plastic coating of the dental sealant also makes it easier to keep the tooth surface clean with good brushing habits.

Veneers
Cosmetic dental veneers are layered ceramic coverings that are adhered to front teeth to create a smooth, lustrous appearance.
Crowns
J is a 25 year old with unsightly crowns on his front teeth that were placed when he was a teenager after a sporting injury. Dr. Hobbs replaced his old porcelain/metal crowns with more natural all porcelain crowns and recontoured the height of his gumline.
Bridges
A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth with a ‘false’ (prosthetic) tooth that is anchored on either side by crowns on adjacent teeth. It is a fixed appliance that can be kept clean with regular brushing, floss aids and routine visits to see the dentist and hygienist.
Dental Bonding
Composite filling materials are available in natural tooth shades to blend with your smile. Composite fillings (also known as dental bonding) are a popular cosmetic dental procedure.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
When a tooth is badly decayed, the infection can progress and cause the tooth nerve and supportive tissue (also called the pulp) to become inflamed. The infection can further spread into the jaw and develop into a painful tooth abscess; the tooth may be lost if not treated. When possible, a root canal procedure is the preferred approach to save the tooth.

Dentures
Dr. Rebecca Hobbs routinely recommends dental implant restorations for replacement of missing teeth and stabilization of complete and partial dentures.

Dental Implants
Following initial placement, dental implants are allowed to heal and integrate with the jaw bone. The implant specialist may support the dental implant with bone or tissue grafts to promote healing and stability.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Slightly oozing blood is normal following a tooth extraction. Biting on a moistened tea bag for 30 minutes usually will help stop the bleeding. In the case of excessive bleeding or pain, contact the dentist that performed the oral surgery or go to the emergency room for instructions.
Tooth Extractions
If there is enough existing healthy tooth structure to restore with a dental crown, a root canal is generally the recommended treatment for an infected tooth over tooth extraction. Preserving the natural tooth will help prevent loss of jaw bone that occurs with a tooth extraction and avoid the need for tooth replacement procedures, such as dental implants, bridges or removable partial dentures.
