Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is an extremely safe and effective procedure for viewing the full lining of the colon and rectum. The colonoscope is a long, thin, flexible instrument with a camera at the tip for viewing. It is introduced through the rectum and advanced until it reaches the beginning of the colon (about 4 feet). Images from the colonoscope appear on a video monitor with a high degree of detail and magnification providing excellent visualization of the entire colon.

InterStim Therapy is a treatment option for people who suffer from bowel incontinence or the inability to control their waste. Bowel incontinence can be a debilitating and distressing condition. Through an essentially painless 15 minute exam, we try to help prevent patients from developing colon cancer. By removing colon polyps, which is easy, painless, and almost entirely free of potential complications, colon cancer is often averted in our patients.

Dr. Gie Yu is a native of Atlanta having graduated as Valedictorian at Tucker High school. She went on to an ivy league education at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a B.S. in Engineering. She came back home to attend the Medical College of Georgia and earned her M.D. She completed a full 5 year categorical General Surgery residency at University of Kansas-Wichita, including a year as chief surgical resident. She then attended the prestigious Henry Ford Hospital where she completed her colon and rectal fellowship. Dr. Yu is an accomplished researcher with papers and talks presented nationally.

Minimally-invasive surgery allows patients who require surgery a shorter hospital stay, less discomfort and earlier return to work. Minimally invasive surgical techniques can be used to treat colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and other benign and malignant abdominal disorders.
