Humane Society of Atchison

I have adopted 3 pets from here and have had nothing but positive experiences with all of them. Even with limited resources they provide for all their animals and love them all so much! Plus the fact they are a no kill shelter makes me even happier to support our local humane society.

I adopted a kitten from this shelter. They tried to tell me the kitten was too young to test to Feline Leukemia and HIV. I seemed to know more about cats than they did. They had not separated the mother cat from kittens to see if they were fully weaned. They were not. My vet said I truly rescued her from this Humane Society. She is now doing well after hand feeding her, clearing up the ear mites and fleas. Expect to have vet bills if you adopt from here but please save these pets!

I've come here on several occasions they are very clean and there's hardly a smell they helped me a lot on adopting a pet and keep in contact to make sure I got him fixed the dogs seem to get lots of attention and exercise and cat by the main entrance have this cool cat in closer thing for when its nice out side there's a board member who volunteers and is difficult to deal with but other than that they where very friendly clean helpful and keep track of there animals unfixed pretty well answered all question and helped me through all my concerns and I still come back to volunteer and see if there a furry buddy that catches my eye thanks guy on of the best shelter experice compare to st joe pound jefferson shelter and leavenworth pound I've sent numerous friend family and other s to this shelter and say the same thing

The worse conditions of any no kill shelter I have ever had the pleasure of going to. No verbal communication between staff what so ever. I have every message saved:) From the lovely staff of internships and or teenagers. Customer service is not a fluent language here. I have never had a shelter ask me if I would like to return the puppy who has been part of our family a few months now! We need to be taking animals out of the shelter and not putting them back in one! My Daisy has just begun to act like a dog, we have come so far with her:) I understand she was from a mill, no animal deserves to be rescued only to be put in a "kennel" They give the Humane Society a bad name and reputation. Please take a look at their facility and you will see/ smell exactly what I speak of. I'm concerned as to why they are still open.
