For more than 85 years United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County has been changing lives in Asheville and Buncombe County. It began operations on June of 1921 as Community Chest of Asheville. Based in Asheville, N.C., the community is the first philanthropic organization in North Carolina. United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County's variety of community services include United Way's 2-1-1 of WNC and Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, which assists people to give and get help.
