This is my favorite restaurant in the world. The food is terrific; the service is excellent; and the owner is one of the nicest human beings on the planet. I have recommended Mexico in Alaska to many friends, have brought many of them with me to dine there, and without exception everyone loves the place. Five stars.

After trying other local Mexican in Anchorage, my wife and I thought we'd try MIA after hearing interesting reviews. Our impression: interesting in the very worst sense of the word. Stale chips. Terrible drink. $18.50 for a small entree!!! For that kind of money, a customer should expect gourmet food, not a pile of shredded iceberg lettuce on top of poorly cooked and a tasteless spoonful of chicken, complimented by a soggy tortilla. Complete waste of money.

I read that this restaurant was rated (on their website) one of the top 50 Mexican restaurants in the US. What an outlandish statement! What a joke! The moment my family and I walked into the nearly empty restaurant we were met with loud, yelling, unprofessional, employees. Bussers yelling, cooks yelling; a truly terrible atmosphere. One older, male, busser actually came into the bathroom while my daughter and I were in there! My husband and I ordered Sangrias that didn't even taste like wine or have fruit in them. The food was greasy, sweet, and overly salted. I would never go back and regret spending a dime in such a trash pit.

This restaurant has gone downhill lately. It is extremely poor!\r \r The chip bowls barely have any chips in them. It's like they want to put the least amount of chips to cover the bottom of the bowl. I counted 11 chips in our bowl. Besides they are cold and stale beyond belief!\r \r The Carne Asada Tacos are a joke! I've had better tacos at Taco Bell!\r I went to their buffet lately, which ends at 2pm. I got there at 1:15pm and there was barely any food on the buffet line. \r There was also no more ice tea. \r I left at 1:50pm and no more food was added to the empty pans on the buffet line. I asked if they were going to bring out anymore food and she said that the cook had gone home for the day!\r \r A $1.00 surcharge per person, was added to each bill in the summer 'because of gas prices' until further notice, but when gas prices went down, the surchage evolved into the menu prices! \r \r We are all paying extra these days in Anchorage, not just Mexico In Alaska! You should be lucky we even still eat at your restaurant! You claim to have authentic Mexican food, but you don't! \r I've been to Ensada, Mexico City, Xtapa and you should be ashamed to even make the comaprison!\r \r The food and service is terrible and I will NEVER eat there again!\r I'll eat at Taco Bell before I ever eat there and I haven't eaten taco Bell in years!\r \r Adios Mexico in Alaska, Milqueya A. Franjul would be ashamed of you!

I've been to a few mexican restaurants and have never had food quite like this. Don't get me wrong, its a good thing! Perhaps this is what they call authentic? Definitely try the mole sauce. I have been ordering the dinner special and i'm happy and stuffed every time!

As the previous review says, this is definately not Tex-Mex food. The food itself is actually quite tasty. The server asked my wife if she would like to sample the mole sauce that comes on the enchilada, and then the server brought an entire enchilada out, just for us to sample (for free). The portions on the meal were huge. However, the restaurant itself feels quite old, the chips were cold, the service was unattentive at best. You can tell the rest of Anchorage feels how we did, in that we were there on a Friday night, and the restaurant was mostly empty of customers. A little more attention on the front of the restaurant would go a long ways.
