So I go to the gun store with my husband so he can pick up some gun powder. I am drawn to the girly pink .22 rifles. I have given my oldest daughter one for a birthday gift a few years back. She loves it. I was looking to get one for my youngest, she just turned7, as a late birthday present so she can be like big sister with her very own gun. I ask the dude a couple of questions about the sites being adjusted or changed while my husband looks at powder. I then see a couple of 1906 Winchesters and forget about the kids. I ask dude a couple of questions about the few they have sitting there. My husband returns, powder in hand, and recognizes the look in my eye. He figures if he doesn't say much that I will realize I don't need another gun without him feeling like a dick for telling me no when he has a gun safe full of beauties. It works and we leave without the gun. The drive away from the shop is a wee bit tense. We return to the shop an hour later and he checks out the gun I selected and realizes it is a pretty cool little rifle. I take the gun up to the counter and dig into my purse and get my ID. I am excited and can't wait to walk out of the store with the gun I picked out for myself!!! Im almost 40 and I felt like an 'little Alaskan girl' for picking out my very own gun and I especially felt like a proud American for having the right to bear arms. I can't wait to shoot this little hummer!!! All of the wind was knocked out of me when Frank came over to the counter and asked what he could help me with. I told him I would like to make the gun mine and out of my purse handed him my ID and bank card with my husbands name on it from an account with OUR money in it. He asked me for whom the gun was. I told him it was for me. He asked me who "he" was and pointed to my husband. I said "thats the guy who is going to pay for it". He said he did not believe me and that I was making a straw purchase. I told him the gun was indeed for me and I had chosen it with no input from my husband what so ever. He went on further to tell me the gun was going to "wind up in his hands!" and pointed to my husband who was looking at a Remmington. He set the gun down and approached the counter. We showed Frank our IDs and were accused of lying about being married because I chose to keep my name when we got married. He grilled us about where we lived and if we lived together. Our IDs show where we live and it is together just like we told him. Frank said smugly to me that my husband had to fill out the paperwork because "it's for him and NOT for you". Wow!!! He accused my husband of being a criminal who was putting a woman up to breaking the law so he can illegally posses a weapon and me of being stupid enough to let him do it. At this point Frank passed the buck to the dude that had been helping me all along. Helping me with the gun I wanted to buy for myself and put in my name for myself. This dude was nothing but respectful to me and for that I thank him. I do not know his name, however. He has helped me in there before and showed me pistols that I could control easily with my arthritic, numb hands. He told me his wife has the same problems and he truly understood what I needed to use the firearm comfortably. Needless to say, he was super confused as to why my husband was going to be the one filling out the paperwork and putting the gun in his name. I had to walk away at this point I was so angry at Frank for treating me in such a manner. We should have left the store and not given them ANY of our money, but then it would have appeared as if Frank had "caught us" and that he was justified in discriminating against me. Discriminating against me just because I have a lucious pair of boobs. I feel that according to Frank if you have ovaries that means you are dumb enough to let a man talk you into commiting a felony. He basically accused me of attempting to help a felon get a weapon in an illegal manner. Apparently, a woman is not
