Upon pulling into the parking lot, the inn looked okay like the other 2 on either side of it. We went into the lobby and were impressed with its appearance. Very roomy and spacious, looking on the up-scale side of things. The prices quoted were very reasonable for what we perceived and we selected a single queen for the night. The night clerk was very helpful and friendly throughout the entire stay, helping with road directions and mileage at midnight. She directed us to parking for our room and gave us our card keys.
This is where it all went wrong. We pulled around the left side of the building and found a total of 4 parking spaces. These were lined up along what I would describe as a ghetto basketball court. The court was littered with trash and an old ?trailer. It was also obvious that many people use this inn as a permanent home. Along the back parking lot was a broken down car with flat tires and traffic cones around it. It hadn't been moved in a least a year from the looks of it.
Noting our surroundings, we learned that the entry into the pool area that is supposed to be accessed with card key was not working and anyone could enter from any of the 3 doors. The pool was only partially filled and not with any water in which I would swim. The hot tub was not filled at all. An old ice machine, not sure of working status, reeked of old water smell.
Entry into the room with the key card was easy. Once inside we found that the deadbolt did not work properly unless you used excessive force against the door. And then we got stuck in the room being unable to disengage the bolt later. It was also apparent that it had been busted into once upon a time.
The mattress, while free from any bugs, looked like it was 10 years old or better. The left side was sunken in and the springs could wake the dead. There were slits in the sides of the mattress where, using my imagination, previous occupants had hidden their "stash". The spare blanket found in the dresser had numerous holes in it.
This was a smoking room so they apparently didn't feel the need for any smoke alarm. You could see on the wall where one had been previously.
The only positives were the bathroom was clean, as were the linens. It was quiet and allowed for a semi-decent night's sleep. The wi-fi worked perfectly and breakfast was good.
If this inn has remodeled rooms, it should be assigning them first and remodelling the rest as soon as possible. I based my decision to stay at this establishment on what I saw from the front of the building and in it's lobby. I would never have even entered the place had I seen the condition of the back or room. I will be requesting to see a room prior to check-in on all future trips I make.
